Getting to Sorrento

The nearest airport to Sorrento is Naples(NAP). As the Amalfi Coast is know for its one lane windy road, please give yourself ample time from Naples to Sorrento, depending on the traffic it can sometimes take more than the standard hour drive.

Transportation

You can also fly into Rome or other larger airports if you’d like to kick off your Italian adventures earlier, but please keep in mind Italian pace is much different than in the US. Give your self plenty of time and do not be in a rush! While the high speed regional trains tend to run on time and are comfortable, the intercity trains are a far different experience. We strongly discourage taking the Naples train to Sorrento. For your convenience, our friend Kayla, a travel coordinator, is available to assist in a seamless transportation experience from the airport to your accommodations in Sorrento. Her assistance does not come at a cost to you. To assist in reducing your transportation costs, we are organizing shuttles. If interested in a shuttle, please send Kayla your flight information and party amount by March 31st. (Closed) Text Kayla at +1 (561) 402-2737 We do not advise on renting a car due to the nature of driving on the Amalfi Coast. It is narrow, winding and parking is expensive and limited. Plus, we want you to have that second glass of wine!

Where To Stay

Sorrento’s central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the Amalfi Coast, offering easy access to key sites while providing a quieter, less crowded atmosphere and stunning views. If you want to stay near the action, we recommend staying near Corso Italia and Piazza Tasso (the main square), where you'll be within walking distance of attractions and restaurants. Staying on the outskirts can offer more peace, keep in mind it may involve a taxi or shuttle to get down from the hills and reach the town center. As we will be visiting toward the end of peak season, it’s strongly suggested to book your accommodations by March 31. This will ensure you have flexibility in your booking, room type and nightly rate. The majority of the area becomes fully booked by May. 4* Hotel Recommendations Grand Hotel Presidente (where the wedding ceremony/reception will be, 5 night minimum, can not walk to town, must shuttle) Grand Hotel Riviera Hilton Sorrento Palace (larger rooms for families, but further walk to downtown) Hotel Continental Hotel Plaza Imperial Hotel Tramontano Grand Hotel de la Ville 3* Hotel Recommendations Hotel Sorrento City La Meridiana Hotel Regina Hotel la Tonnarella (beachfront but 20 minutes walk from the center of town) There are also affordable Air BNB options, suitable for families who wish for more space or if you are seeking a more authentic Italian experience.

Getting Around Sorrento And The Amalfi Coast

Sorrento is a charming town located on the Sorrentine Peninsula in southern Italy, overlooking the Bay of Naples. Known for its stunning views, cobblestone streets, and vibrant citrus groves, it offers a mix of natural beauty, cultural history, and Italian coastal charm. As a gateway to the Amalfi Coast, it’s an excellent base for travelers exploring the region. If you are unfamiliar with the Amalfi Coast, it is multiple towns situated along the Southern coast of Italy. It features colorful villages like Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, each with unique architecture, local cuisine, and breathtaking landscapes. The area is famous for its lemons, picturesque beaches, and winding roads that offer incredible vistas. There is only one road that connects the towns and the towns are built into the mountainside, so it can be difficult to get around. You can travel between the towns on the Amalfi Coast by car, boat, or bus. Apparently the most comfortable and scenic way to see the towns is by boat/ferry. I’ve been told by many people that renting a car is a horrible idea. Please see the “Things to Do” section for more information about Amalfi Coast towns. Once you are in one of the towns, there is a lot of walking involved to get from place to place, often times up lots of hills and stairs. Wear comfortable shoes!

Must Read - Travel Pro Tips

Check to make sure your passport is up to date. Restaurants are not fast and you'll have to ask for your check. Don't be a typical American and expect everything "right now" as the vibe is much more leisurely. Call your cell phone company and get a travel plan for the days that you'll be in Italy. Get WhatsApp. The world outside the US runs on WhatsApp. It’s fast, stable and much more reliable on a variety of internet connections. Get an app called GPSMyCity. This app will be your tour guide and it will help you find out what to see, where to go, and what to do while you're exploring! Download it and pay the $13 for the premium version. Download the packs ahead of time (on wifi) and use them off-line. Get the Google Translator app and download the Italian language pack for off-line use. This way you can ensure easy communications with the locals and you can read signs, menus and everything else. Google Maps and Apple Maps work all over the world and both apps can guide you through public transit as well as basic directions, you can download them off-line but the on-line versions are much more robust. If you're going to see historical sites, please understand that some require conservative dress, especially churches.
