How We Met: The Dance-Off That Started It All

He danced... She danced... From the dance floor to forever, it all began at a little saloon where their hearts aligned. A decade later, they’ll dance for the first time as husband and wife.

They met in February 2016 at the Buckhorn Saloon on Staples Lake in Comstock, WI. Brandon would regularly hang out there with his best friend, Kenny Anderson. Krystle and about 10 of her cousins went there that night to hang out and have a few drinks. The DJ, Jeff Pederson, a good friend of Brandon and Krystle, was there playing that night. Brandon and Krystle were both out on the dance floor, having fun and busting moves in separate corners of the crowd. The song ended, and Jeff came on over the speakers, "Everyone who was out on the dance floor, please come back so we can have the crowd vote who was the best dancer in the dance off!" Krystle, shocked because she didn't even know a dance off was taking place, bashfully went to the lineup. Brandon, pumped with confidence, was already in line waiting for the crowd's vote! Jeff walked over to each contestant, held his hand over their head, and the crowd would cheer if they thought they danced well. Other contestants started dropping out as Jeff went down the lineup. Brandon got a loud roar from the crowd, all clapping and cheering, and Krystle had the same results! Equally matched, they had a tie for the win between the two of them! Jeff came on over the speakers, "We have a tie, time for a Tie Breaker! These two need to dance their A$$es off to see who will win!" Brandon excitedly started working the crowd and getting everyone pumped up! Krystle stood there on the dance floor crapping her pants… The song started, and they each broke into their own moves, dancing solo but unknowingly stealing each other's hearts. When the song was over, Jeff came on over the speakers again, "Okay, let's see who won this dance off!" Jeff held his hand over Brandon, and the crowd went wild and cheered. Then Jeff moved to Krystle, holding his hand over her, and the crowd went wild again! Jeff had to do it a second time because it was so close. Again the crowd went wild for both! After much determination, Krystle had the slight advantage (not to mention a third of the crowd was her family)! Her cousins pulled through for her, cheering as loud as they could, and she was declared the winner! Brandon and Krystle had an immediate attraction; they talked here and there throughout the night. They realized they had some common acquaintances; Don Lake, one of Krystle's cousins, worked with Brandon, was there that night. Krystle also worked at the same place where Brandon's friend Kenny worked. As the night came to an end, they parted ways, and each went home. Fast forward to August 2016... Brandon and Kenny decided to attend a well-known local event, the Moravitz's Car Launch. Unknowingly, Krystle and her friends, Darcy and Ryan, decided to go to the car launch as well. Ryan Butzler, who also worked with Krystle and Kenny, mentioned that Kenny would be there. They found Kenny, and Brandon was there with him. The two groups hung out, and at the end of the event, Brandon asked Krystle if she wanted to meet at the Buckhorn later that evening. She said yes, after some convincing from her friend Darcy, who said she'd join her. That evening, they met up at the saloon and hung out, dancing the night away. Little did Krystle know, she also met her future Father-in-law that night, Don Manecke. While she and Darcy chatted away about the cute guy out on the dance floor, sitting at the same table was Don! As they all shared drinks and laughs throughout the night, Brandon and Krystle's attraction grew. Brandon asked for Krystle's number and if he could see her again the following weekend. After a month of seeing each other, Brandon asked Krystle to be his girlfriend on September 30th, 2016. In September 2021, Brandon asked Krystle to marry him. Now, in September 2026, they will finally tie the knot and say "I Do"! From dance-floor rivals to lifelong partners, what started with a spontaneous dance-off has now turned into forever dance partners. 🤍
