Almost 3 years to the date of our engagement, we met for the first time. Who would have thought a guy from Canada and one from California would find love on a chance encounter in Hawaii. We did, and this is our story. Brandon would visit his parents in Maui for Thanksgiving and John decided to take his first solo trip. I know you are wondering how someone from eastern Canada would meet someone from California. Like any millennial, we met online and agreed to a date. We ended up at a Tiki bar. Visiting 3 years later, I’m not sure how we ended up on a second date. During one of the final times together, Brandon mentioned visiting John. He was on vacation another week and planned to visit NYC but plans changed and did visit John. Long distance is difficult, let alone cross continent, 4-hour time difference and with no known future, the relationship was put on hold. Life continued, but we would stay connected. One special time always occurred on Thanksgiving where Brandon would FaceTime from his parents’. Time passes us by, and we don’t take all the chances we should. Fast forward to 2019’s conversation about the regrets and “what if’s” of life. We both knew 3 years ago time wasn’t right, but what if it was now? As the conversation was ending, Brandon did something he never should have (John’s glad he did). He told John to “prove it” that they would stay connected. Two weeks later a text with John’s flight information for a February visit. We could have our own Hallmark movie with the memories and things that have occurred, but we’re trying to keep this short. Fast forward to our trip to Hawaii. One memory we created was a coffee date that was supposed to occur 3 years ago. We grabbed coffee and enjoyed sitting on a beach we visited many times. It was here, 3 years to the day of our first date, that Brandon started the conversation about our future. Once again, peering into the future, one thing was for sure, the next chapters in our journey would be written together.
