I just happened to be sitting next to my friend Lindsey in the break room at work when her cousin walked up and told her about a get together he was having the night before Thanksgiving. He then looked over at me and told me I should come too if I wanted. I didn’t know him, but I didn’t have any plans and Lindsey was going to go. The introvert in me was saying stay home. The extrovert in me was saying I needed to get out there and make new friends. I decided to go and that turned out to be the decision that brought mine and Dylan’s paths together. After a little over two weeks of talking nonstop and hanging out, we decided to begin this relationship of ours.
KJ, Ashley, and I arrived ready for a hike at the entrance trail of Raven Cliff Falls in Helen, Ga just before the sun came up. A mile and a half out on the trail, we came upon my favorite spot where you can stand at the top of a beautiful waterfall looking out over Dodd Creek. I was leading and super excited for KJ and I to show this breathtaking spot to Ashley since it was her first time out. Prior to making it to the waterfall, I spotted someone crouched down at the bottom of a tree to my left. It startled me because I thought we were alone and then I realized I knew this person. Dylan was supposed to be going with friends to golf that morning closer to home which was around 2 hours away from there, yet here he was standing right before me. He started walking towards the falls and as I followed behind him, I saw my sister, Amanda, coming out from a tree with a GoPro in hand. It all starts to set in that IT was happening. Dylan takes us to the edge of the falls and as he begins to talk, I notice Kelly was up in a tree across the falls with a camera pointed directly at us. Dylan takes a knee and asked me to marry him. Through my ugly crying, I said yes. I am a difficult person to surprise, but he did it with the help of our family and friends. We popped a bottle of champagne in the middle of this beautiful place and celebrated this unforgettable moment.
