I swooped Brand up in graduate school. My friends had been telling me to talk to him for months and my "I'm too busy" excuse finally gave way. His energy was contagious as we discussed biking in Seattle and he swung an invisible u-lock above his head “to defend against cars”. I immediately cleaned house and invited him to a friend's party a few days later. A shot ski or two later, I got his number. We went on our first date after finals finished up. We closed down the bars without realizing we’d talked for 8 hours. He tried to tempt me - a lactose intolerant mostly vegetarian - with a Seattle dog on the walk home. I told him I couldn’t have one and why, but he didn't seem to hear me and instead kissed me. Strangers at the hot dog stand across the street cheered for us. It’s pretty funny to think back and realize that was our last first kiss ever. I felt it deep down - this was my forever guy. So the story goes... in the past 7+ years we’ve had adventures apart and together - whether worlds away - thank you, technology - or right in our PNW backyard. We’ve graduated, moved in together, changed jobs, bought a condo, adopted a kitten, traveled abroad, taken up backpacking, began alpine touring, built a kegerator, and learned a lot about ourselves and our love along the way.
