What to Expect

The Wedding Website of Brady Mason and Jessica Venegas
'Holy Matrimony is considered a sacrament (or "Mystery") in the Orthodox Church, and it differs from the usual Roman Catholic or Protestant wedding services in many respects. It is a beautiful service, with a vision of marriage as a union of man and woman becoming an icon or living symbol of the nature and life of God, who ultimately is the one uniting the couple in peace and oneness of mind and heart, body and spirit. Reflecting on the blessing bestowed upon holy men and women by God in the Biblical past, the service includes many prayers that pray that the couple, too, be given His blessings of peace, love, chastity, harmony, children, and a life of holiness' (Adapted from Sister Ioanna - St. Innocent Mission) For more detail on the prayers/order of the service, one could read: https://www.goarch.org/-/crown-them-with-glory-and-honor-marriage-in-the-orthodox-church As for the service text itself, here is a PDF below: https://www.oca.org/files/PDF/Music/Marriage/marriage-service.pdf

Holy Matrimony

3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral
1900 Main St, Columbia, SC 29201

Suggest to dress semi-formal, black-tie optional; ultimately, though, we want you to come as you are!

Please note that there will not be a reception for the newlyweds to follow on the wedding day, but they will be eager to greet and express their gratitude for your support and attendance following the ceremony in the narthex (the foyer prior to entering the the central part of the church). After the service, Jessica and Brady will plan to drive to Greensboro, North Carolina. Orthodox Christians at church services are referred to with the Christian name they received at Baptism, customarily the name of their patron saints - so do not be alarmed when you will hear priests call Brady and Jessica, "Brendan" and "Cecelia", respectively.
