Brad and Maddie's favorite taco spot in the city. Food truck in Arbor Food Park serving Mexico City-style tacos, small (2-3 bites each). 4 tacos is perfect. These babies are packed with flavor - don’t sleep on their beans! This place is BYOB and there's a Quickie Pickie a few blocks away if you want to grab a six-pack.
This taco truck is based on a northern Mexico style of cooking where meats and veggies are cooked together in one pan. They have two things on the menu: mini tacos and elotes. (5-8 tacos per order). This place is BYOB and there's a liquor store next door.
It's all about the homemade flour tortillas here. This has been our go-to spot for filling tacos. These are on the larger side (1-2 tacos per order.) Maddie's favorite: El Señor Crockett. They have 2 locations but we recommend going to the one on East Riverside.
Skip the line at Franklins (#7 Texas Monthly Top 50 Texas BBQ spots - they do online ordering now and if this is your dream I’d suggest pre-ordering). Instead, head a little south to Valentina’s. This place doesn’t have a weakness and once you have their tortillas you will never want to go back to white bread.
A truck at one of our favorite bars - Cosmic Coffee and Beer Garden.
It's just really damn good.
Grab a free beer while you're waiting in line.
Whole animal-focused Italian fare with a rotating menu. This has become a staple for our date nights. The food and service shine bright and are a great value compared to many nice restaurants in the city.
A Japanese izakaya concept infused with Texas smoking culture. Amazing atmosphere, drinks, and smaller plates. Do not leave here without having the Hot Pocketz (Maddie’s fave) or the Fish Collar (Brad’s fave). If ramen is what you are craving hit up their sister restaurant Ramen Tatsuya.
Best ramen in town, and they have multiple locations. Maddie's favorite is the Tsukemen.
Detroit Style pizza with a few locations around town. Austin isn’t Chicago but this is some of the best cheese, sauce, and dough around town.
A massive beer garden and coffee shop with amazing draft cocktails. We've spent countless happy hours here with our best friends. There are a few food trucks here as well, including Tommy Want Wingy (wings) and Leroy and Lewis (BBQ). Maddie's favorite cocktail is the boozy frozen coffee. It will change your life.
Incredible frenched chicken wings with various flavors and spice levels. Fun fact: A group of friends one time bet Maddie $100 that there's NO WAY she could eat the spiciest wing, the Holy Schnikes. Needless to say, they got swindled.
