I matched with Brad on Bumble last year. For those of you who were lucky enough to meet your significant other the "old fashioned way," Bumble is a dating app. You have to "swipe right" if you like someone, and you only match if they swipe right on your profile, too. I was obviously excited about the prospect of meeting a handsome personal trainer with an accent, so I made sure to tell my closest 25 best friends all about it. Brad asked me out, and I said yes. Approximately two hours before our scheduled first date I texted Brad to say I couldn't make it. Because I was "sick." He saw right through my excuses, but he was very nice about it all. The next day all my friends asked me how my date went. When I explained that I hadn't gone, every single one of them had the same reaction...Didn't you say he was Australian?? And attractive?? And nice??? I quickly saw the error of my ways, and I texted Brad to see if we could reschedule the date I had canceled. He left for a trip to Iceland the next day, but VERY fortunately for me he agreed to meet up when he got back. Brad assures me that he went out with plenty of other women in the meantime, and I assure him that they must not have been that great because here we are! When we finally met up at a wine bar on 14th Street, we hit it off right away. I loved his positive energy, his outlook on life, and above all THAT ACCENT...Just ask any of my cousins who were present at our family party the next day. (Shoutout to David White for asking me if I was going to move to Australia right as my mom walked up behind me.) And the rest is history. I've been swooning ever since!
It all started when Maura Kelly asked if I had met the Whites yet. Caroline immediately said, "My dad would love to play golf with you!" I said, book a time and I will be there. The very next second Caroline is texting her Dad about setting a day to play golf together. We planned a Sunday in a couple of weeks. I was not expecting it to be so soon, but I was not going to say no to playing the great game of golf. The big day came, the sun was shining, and it was a perfect day for a game of golf. Despite Caroline telling me how easy going her parents are, I was still a bit nervous. After meeting Ken and Cathy, sharing a few words, Ken offering me a beer, and hitting the driving range my nerves started to settle. This gave me the confidence to let my golf game do most of the talking. After the first few holes getting to know Ken and Cathy, a few good shots and some not so good, I already knew that this was going to be a day to remember. After a splendid 18 holes I was not sure what to expect next. Ken and Cathy invited me over for a home cooked dinner. After having such a great day on the course I was definitely not going to say no. After the game Caroline and I headed over to her parents' place. Caroline gave me a tour of her childhood home. Then we headed to the bar and poured ourselves some wine. It was still a beautiful day outside, so Caroline and I headed outside to sit on the deck while her parents planned dinner. Feeling very relaxed, I was sitting with my arm around Caroline and enjoying a glass of red wine. Ken came out and joined us. I was certainly not expecting what came next. The only question Ken had was - "What took you so long to meet my daughter?" The rest is history...A perfect Introduction to my future in-laws!
