Sara first laid eyes on Brad via a high school homecoming photo that hung on her college roommate's side of the dorm. She saw a handsome man and knew she had to know him. Fast forward six months, Alexandria (Alex), Sara's college roommate, finally gave Sara's phone number to Brad. The rest, some say, was history :)
Brad was staying at his parent's house during Spring Break of his freshman year of college when he received a text message from Alex with the phone number for her roommate, Sara. Alex provided Brad with a stellar recommendation that he should text Sara. Brad was surprised to hear that, but figured "Why not?" Soon after, he was in the living room of his parent's house being questioned by his mother about who he was so feverishly talking to and smiling about on his phone. Those first few days were an awkward whirlwind that quickly grew into a love story!
Bradley and Sara met for the first time in April of 2015. Sara attended Brad's track meet in La Crosse to finally meet the man in the picture. The first time she met him (in pure spandex!) she knew he was special. After the track meet, Sara wanted to take Brad somewhere special--Grandad's Bluff. It was a romantic night overlooking the city and all Sara wanted was for Brad to wrap his arms around her or grab her hand--he didn't! Sara remembers leaving the first date believing Brad was not interested in her and that the date was actually pretty bad! Meanwhile, Brad left the date absolutely enamored by everything about Sara. He thought the date was spectacular and that everything went perfect! When she returned to her dorm room, she spilled everything to her roommate, Alex, who admitted that Brad actually texted her during the date asking for advice and wanting to make the relationship "official".
Brad drove two hours to Winona the night before a track meet to spend two hours with Sara and make the relationship official. They celebrated with some Pizza Hut pizza!
Brad and Sara stayed committed to their relationship and love at a distance until they both graduated college--Brad from UW-Eau Claire and Sara from Winona State in May of 2018. They finally closed the distance after four years and moved to the Madison area to start the rest of their lives together.
Brad had the ring for many weeks and was struggling to create the perfect proposal. Brad learned that they would be visiting Sara's parents in Westby, and realized that the perfect place to pop the question would be where everything started--at Grandad's Bluff in La Crosse! Naturally, it was one of the windiest days of the year and another family wouldn't leave the spot where Brad wanted to propose. Thankfully, everything worked out in the end and Sara said, "Yes!"
