The RIU Palace is located approximately 45 minutes east from the Liberia, Costa Rica Airport (LIR), and is accessible through a two lane, country road which makes its way through sugar cane fields, cattle pastures and small house settlements along the road. Costa Rica is an amazing country with so much to see. We recommend taking some time before or after your stay at the Riu Palace to explore the country. Renting a car is a great way to get around. The driving in Costa Rica can be scary sometimes for first time visitors since drivers there are not as careful or considerate as they are in some other countries. They don’t signal, they love to extreme tailgate and pass even when it’s not allowed and many places don’t have accurate road signs (if they even have any!). Many of the roads are unpaved and if you plan on doing any sightseeing a 4x4 is necessary.
