Jessica and Jonah found each other online at a time when meeting new people meant meeting digitally first. What began with a cozy hot-chocolate date on a chilly Chicago afternoon quickly turned into something magical. Jonah proposed while on a trip to Sagres, Portugal, on March 14th, 2025. That day, he kept mentioning that they needed to be on the edge of the cliff where the lighthouse is to catch the most beautiful sunset. Jessica agreed and was really excited to record the sunset that everyone talks about that goes to that particular spot in Portugal. They had driven all over the south of the Algarve that day, stopping at cafes for espressos and taking pictures of the grandeur that is Portugal. When they finally arrived at the lighthouse on "the edge of the world", there was a crowd gathering to see the much-talked-about sunset. They picked a spot that they could see well enough and sat down on the rocks. The air was cold and extremely windy, and you could scarcely hear the person sitting right next to you because of the whistle of the wind in their ears. But Jonah spoke anyway. As Jessica had already set up the camera to record the sunset, Jonah started to speak about his feelings for Jess. Jess was a little bit confused at first because she didn't know why he was choosing to speak at this moment about his feelings. Jonah spoke about his strong feelings of love for Jessica, and about how he wanted to grow old with her, and about how he thought of her as his wife for a long time now. That snapped Jessica out of any confusion she may have been experiencing. Because is this what she thought it was? It couldn't be?! But why not? Jonah asked his question louder so there was no mistaking his intentions. "Will you marry me and be my wife?" Jessica started to cry and said, "Really? Are you serious? Of course!" Jonah stated that he really needed a "yes" as he laughed and cried at the same time. Jessica shouted, "Yes!" Jonah had been fiddling with something in his coat the whole time. He pulled out the ring his mother used to wear, and that made Jess's heart melt. They kissed and hugged and cried in that moment, embracing each other in front of onlookers who may or may not have suspected something, given that they were both crying and kissing. On the way home, they talked about how Jessica had no idea what Jonah was planning. How she had no idea that he had previously procured his mother's ring from his grandmother on their last visit with her for this precise moment. He had been thinking about it for a while. They were all nerves, smiles, and happy crying all the way back to the hotel that night.
