In March of 2023, Will texted Sydney asking her to be his date to his best friend’s wedding in that wasn't until October. They had been texting for a little while but barely knew each other and somehow, Sydney said yes anyway. The next day, reality set in. She had just agreed to be someone’s wedding date… and had never even met him. That same night, Sydney and her friends were throwing a bonfire. She was still in college, and Will had already started his full-time job that required him to be at work by 7 a.m. Still, she invited him, fully expecting him to choose sleep over meeting a girl he barely knew. Instead, he said, “I’ll be there.” From the second he showed up, they were stuck to each other’s sides. It was as though they had known each other for a lifetime. They sat by the fire talking until 2 a.m., when Will finally decided he should probably get at least a couple hours of sleep before work. But that was okay, because they had already made plans to hang out the next night. And the next. And the next. On May 20, 2023, they were at (you guessed it) another bonfire, completely wrapped up in their own conversation, when Will looked at her and said, “How come you’re not my girlfriend yet?” Sydney said, “Probably because you never asked.” They laughed… and then he finally did. Fast forward to December 18, 2025. It was a Thursday, pouring rain. Will suggested trying a new restaurant on the square in Glasgow. After dinner, he casually mentioned he needed to swing by the courthouse because he “had a job there the next day and wasn’t sure how he was going to get a unit through the doors.” Sydney didn’t think twice about it. When they pulled up, Will asked her to get out and look with him. She laughed and said, “Umm, no. It’s literally flooding.” After a little convincing, she finally agreed, slightly annoyed, and hopped out of the truck, walking the opposite direction. When she turned the corner, Will was down on one knee and asked her to marry him. There was never a job at the courthouse. Just a guy who’d been carrying around a ring for weeks and couldn’t wait any longer. He threw out every plan he had and went with his gut. They were just supposed to be wedding dates back in 2023. But God had bigger plans. Now they are planning their own wedding, and they thank Him every day for bringing them together in a way only He could. What started as a random “yes” turned into the greatest blessing.
