When we first locked eyes...

I want you to think of the most romantic way you could meet someone and then flip it completely around...Yeah, Christian and I met when he walked into a house where I was doing my makeup trying to pour the last drip of foundation out of the bottle by smacking it on my face and the house owner’s dog freshly got into the trash. I heard the door open, ran out of the bathroom awkwardly,(as we were both at someone’s house doing something and they weren’t even home) and there was Christian Butler. Nervous and shocked at how kind of a soul he looked like I agressively said “Hey, I’m Katie” and he came back with the crazy pick up line of “Hey, I’m Christian.” Some time passed and we got to know each other vaguely, but enough to know we were both interested. Then one day I decided I was interested in the Army and Christian was the perfect resource for me to reach out to as he is currently serving and I completely trusted his judgement. He asked if “I wanted to go find some dinner and talk about my options and how it works...” Long story short, the dinner then went to a movie and the movie then went to fish spearing. The rest is history I guess. Our story truly goes to show that you will find the one when you are least expecting it, but when you need it the most.

The Proposal

November 9th 2019

Christian always talked about how much he loved the UP, and how he wanted to take me there. We are kind of a future talking couple so we alway did briefly talk about marriage. He emphasized that he wanted me to meet his Grandma before he asked me for my hand, so we made it a point to make a trip up north. A week prior to going, Angel, Christian’s sister, made the comment about wanting to practice her photography skills on us up there. So of course, me being as extra as I am, Christian and I went out and got cute outfits that color coordinated and Angel and I went and got our nails done. We headed for the U.P. on Friday after we all got out of work and college and made the 8 hour hike that way... Saturday was picture day. We woke up and got around and headed out to Bond falls for some sight seeing. Bond Falls was beautiful, and by every waterfall until the end we stopped to snap a picture and Christian kissed my head and assured me that he loved me. When we got to the very bottom of the falls the view was breathtaking. Angel and Christian both told me that the very place we were standing was where their parents, Todd and Janice, gave each others hearts to one another and got married. As Angel was standing on the board walk Christian slowly got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him. Slowly migrating out of the tundra was our parents. Emotions flooded me, but this hands down is a moment that I will cherish in my heart until the day I take my last breath.

For all the days along the way
