If you ask Miles, he'll say Cheyenne has always been the love of his life. If you ask Cheyenne, she'll make it very clear that Miles was the person she'd been waiting for. We were both too young to remember exactly when we met, but we know the first time we spoke was at Grace Episcopal Church, where both our families have been members for generations. This first interaction had to be around 12 or 13 though. Miles, who was an acolyte, burned his hand removing one of the candle protectors during service. Cheyenne, who sang in the choir, noticed and after service asked if he was okay. This was the moment that sparked a friendship, a teenage romance, and what we call - the early years. After years of being each other's high school sweethearts, it was time to go to college, and the two decided to go their separate ways. Cheyenne moved to Atlanta and eventually settled in Washington, DC while Miles stayed in Michigan and eventually moved to New York. 10 years passed with both remaining distant friends but never reconnecting. Our moms helped us keep tabs on each other with periodic updates and we enjoyed hearing what the other was doing whether it be traveling to Malaysia or learning how to fly planes! Despite a few encounters in passing over the years, we were never able to find the time to catch up, that is until time stood still. In February 2020, we caught each other at the perfect time in our lives and spent the next few months of pandemic confinement, reconnecting and making up for as much lost time as we could. A 14-year-old text predicted this exact moment in our lives, where something incredible would happen, and from then on we’d spend the rest of our lives together.
