It all started in 2017 at Whole Foods, where Savanna worked in the café and bakery and Said worked on the meat team. Sav noticed Said first—she thought he was cute and tried to flirt...awkwardly. Said, ever the straight-shooter, usually missed the hints (and occasionally just declined her invitations for drinks with a blunt “nah”). But Sav knew the way to his heart: through his stomach. At the end of their closing shifts, she'd give him first dibs on the day’s leftover goodies—pies, scones, rustic breads—all technically trash-bound, but to Said, they were gourmet gestures. Little by little, their work banter turned into real conversations. Lunch breaks at the sushi bar followed, then post-shift parking lot beers and run-ins at parties. Eventually, the tables turned—Said invited Sav over to watch a movie. Thankfully, he had a secret weapon: Charlie, his long-haired dachshund and unintentional icebreaker. Anyone who knows Sav knows she isn’t a dog person, but Charlie’s charm made their first hangout feel easy. From then on, they started spending more time together—and the rest, as they say, is history. They mark November 15, 2017—Sav’s birthday—as the official start of their relationship. Just before COVID-19 hit in 2020, they moved in together. While the world was thrown into chaos, Sav and Said found strength and joy in building a life side-by-side. Said continued working as an essential worker, and Sav took on the hustle of homeownership acquisition: paperwork, phone calls, and bank visits, all while navigating unemployment. Their teamwork paid off—they bought their first home together, lovingly known as Box Turtle. Over the years, their family has grown to include a cast of quirky animals: Babu, Spooky, Fu, Rufus, and the occasional three-legged turtle or opossum that takes up residence in their fig tree. On November 23, 2023, Said and Sav were visiting Sav's family for Thanksgiving in New Orleans. The morning started off with goetta and eggs for breakfast and watching Packers vs Lions game. As the family gathered around the dinner table, they started their annual tradition of stating what they were thankful for. By the time the circle got back to Said, he proposed to Savanna with a chocolate smash heart he had made himself during his time as a chocolatier. She said yes. These days when they're not at the disc golf course or the pool, you can find them sharing dinner on the couch—Said playing Madden, Sav singing karaoke. They enjoy exploring new cities and restaurants, trying exotic coffees, and the occasional pickleball match. You can find them unwinding together with their cats while Said watches YouTube and Sav reads books. They love to laugh, eat, cheer on the Chiefs, and simply be together. Their love is built on patience, laughter, teamwork, and a lot of shared snacks (and maybe a few borrowed scones).
