Lauren was only in D.C. for 36 hours to attend a friend's going away party at Local 16. At the same time, George had a friend visiting who wanted to go to Local 16 because he knew the DJ. This was not a place George frequented often but after a little bit of resisting his friends convinced him to go. Soon after George arrived he spotted Lauren through the crowd and was instantly captivated. She was standing next to the dance floor holding her friend's jacket and bag so it didn't get lost; in other words, not dancing. Intending to charm her, George approached and asked her to dance. She refused and explained that she was responsible for her friend's things and couldn't put them down. George wasn’t going to give up so easily. To Lauren’s surprise he suggested that she still dance with her one free hand. After two songs of chatting and awkwardly dancing salsa, they had learned as much about each other as they needed. Their connection was interrupted when one of George's friends approached and said they were leaving. Before being pulled away, George asked Lauren if she wanted to meet up for coffee. It was then that he learned Lauren lived 2 hours away. As you could have guessed, that would not stop him. Although they weren't sure what would come of that chance meeting, they exchanged numbers and went their separate ways. After two days of nonstop text exchanges, George asked if she wanted to meet in Gainesville for a first date. One week later they each drove almost an hour to meet at Trummer's Coffee and Wine Bar. They talked and laughed for what seemed like hours and have been doing so ever since. Fate (and George’s persistence) brought them together that night. Had it not been for friends going away and a specific DJ playing, they would not have met that night. Long distance, multiple moves and job changes, a graduation, and a pandemic later, they are looking forward to beginning their life together as husband and wife!
