Edwin & I worked at the same company. The first time we met, Edwin was hosting a training session that I was attending. He was new to the company, and I was asking a lot of questions that he didn't know the answers to but pretended to anyway. After that day, we passed each other daily, but didn't speak again for months. After asking so many questions I assumed he thought of me as mildly annoying, but Edwin's story is that he walked by my desk every day knowing that one day he was going to date me. Four months later I joined his team at work, and after a couple months of finding each other hilarious, we started to date.
We were on a trip to Oktoberfest in Munich, and decided to take a day trip to Austria. We are both in love with the mountains, so we try to find them in our travels when we visit somewhere new. We took a train to Salzburg to visit Untersberg, where we took the Untersbergbahn to the top of the mountains to stand on the border between Germany and Austria. When we got to the top it was breathtaking, and 20 degrees cooler than it had been on the ground. We hiked around the peaks, and at one beautiful spot Edwin told me to turn and face the view so he could take a picture of me. While I was faced away, he positioned his phone on a rock and began recording a video. I still thought he was taking my picture until he told me to turn around, at which point I turned around to him down on one knee. He gave me a short speech that included all of the beautiful, loving, sappy things you would expect. As we're thinking it couldn't get any better, as soon as I said yes it started to snow... in September. It was a truly incredible experience.
We always knew we wanted to have an intimate destination wedding. We decided on Banff because we knew we wanted it to be in the mountains, and Banff had always been on our wish list. We had our rehearsal dinner at the top of Banff Gondola at Sky Bistro, which had the most incredible views of the entire mountain range. If you've never seen what that view looks like, you can google it, but pictures do not do it justice. For our wedding we rented a spot on Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park, and it could not have been more perfect. We booked it on a whim, knowing we hadn't seen any of the areas in person and hoped it would be as astounding as Lake Louise. It truly was greater than any of our expectations. We had a private viewpoint right on the edge of the lake, and despite the forecasted thunderstorms all day, the weather remained perfect throughout our ceremony. We invited our immediate families, and Edwin's brother-in-law Russell officiated our ceremony. We followed the ceremony with a champagne toast and hors d'oeuvres, then a canoe ride on Emerald Lake, where the thunderstorms decided to appear. It was such a fun experience canoeing through the lake in the pouring rain, and ended up being Edwin's favorite part of the day. We decided to embrace the rain and continue taking our wedding pictures in the downpour, and we looked so absurd by the end that tourists were taking pictures of me soaked in my wedding dress. That evening we had our wedding dinner at a local restaurant, where they brought out our Harry Potter themed wedding cake. Everything about the day turned out so perfectly, and we already plan to return for our one year anniversary.
Your love and support of our marriage is the greatest gift of all. Should you wish to help us celebrate with a gift, a registry is held at Zola.com and Target.com.
