Accommodations in the Triangle

Welcome to our neck of the woods: the North Carolina Triangle! The "Triangle" denotes the metro area of the Piedmont region anchored by Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, with various small towns and villages in-between and surrounding, including our home of Hillsborough. As is common in southern metros, there is no central urban core to the Triangle, but rather a web of connected towns and small cities, with scattered pockets of commercial and residential development. Those visiting for the first time can expect a more rural/suburban feel, rather than that of a big city. For the purpose of planning your visit, please note that car transportation is unavoidable, regardless of where you choose to stay. Hillsborough, the closest town to the wedding venue, has a small, but charmingly walkable downtown, with expansive forests and countryside extending in every direction. In town, there is one boutique hotel and a handful of small homes and condos available for rent. Outside of town there are several Airbnb rentals in the farms and woods of northern Orange County, and west into Alamance County. Slightly farther out, Chapel Hill and Durham feature larger downtown areas, with more hotel options and city accommodations. We don't recommend staying in Raleigh, as that will require much longer driving times to venue and wedding weekend festivities. Flight

Raleigh-Durham Airport (RDU)

The airport closest to us is the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), which is about a 30-minute drive from Hillsborough and 20 minutes from Durham and Chapel Hill. RDU is a modern (and tastefully updated), well-connected regional airport. Those seeking more non-stop flight options or planning to explore western NC while visiting may inquire into Charlotte-Douglas International (CLT) Airport (the largest in the state), though Charlotte is about 2 hours by car from Hillsborough and the Triangle.

Getting Around

There are minimum public transit options in our area. When Chris starts getting more involved in local politics, he plans to advocate for a comprehensive light rail system, but in the meantime, we recommend renting a car at your chosen airport (RDU is easiest) or utilizing Uber/Lyft to get around the area.

The Colonial Inn

A historic inn and Hillsborough landmark, operating since the 1830s, in the heart of downtown. Featuring newly updated rooms and an in-house bar and restaurant, the Colonial is just steps from the Riverwalk, market, and all of the downtown dining/entertainment spots, and is a 15-minute drive to the wedding venue. This is where we will be staying for the wedding weekend. The room block for wedding guests is currently full, but you are welcome to inquire with the inn directly, to check if other rooms are available.

The Durham Hotel

A classy, mid-century boutique hotel, centrally located in Durham. Renowned for its design, service, and rooftop lounge (from which Chris and Sabrina have enjoyed several sunset cocktails), this is a great option to explore all that downtown Durham has to offer. The Durham Hotel is about an 18-minute drive to Hillsborough and 30-minute drive to the wedding venue.

The Carolina Inn

A regal southern colonial style hotel close in downtown Chapel Hill. The inn is a classic haunt of old-money Carolinians and famous visitors to the Triangle, and features many rooms on a large and handsome property, walking distance to all of the dining and entertainment on Franklin Street. A great option for those looking for the classic Chapel Hill experience. The Carolina Inn is about a 20-minute drive to Hillsborough and a 30-minute drive to the wedding venue.

Unscripted Durham

A funky, creatively designed and decorated hotel in the City Center plaza of Durham, with a rooftop pool and several bars and eateries on-site. Very close to the Durham Hotel, the Unscripted has a younger and more energetic vibe, while also being walking distance to everything in downtown Durham. The Unscripted is about an 18-minute drive to Hillsborough and 30-minute drive to the wedding venue.

AC Hotel - Chapel Hill Downtown

A newly built hotel, the AC Chapel Hill has many clean and modern rooms, with all of the amenities you would expect from nicer hotel chains. Just a block away from Franklin Street, it's likewise walking distance from all the dining and entertainment of downtown Chapel Hill. A good, budget-friendly option for those looking to stay close to a downtown. The AC Chapel Hill is about a 20-minute drive to Hillsborough and a 30-minute drive to the wedding venue.

House Or Rental

Airbnb

As of this posting, there are a number of Airbnb rental options for the weekend of May 23rd in Durham and Chapel Hill, and a limited selection in the Hillsborough environs. These would also make for great places to stay, especially for those lodging with larger groups. Feel free to ask Sabrina or Chris about whether a rental in which you are interested is in a suitable location.

Shuttle

Shuttle from Hillsborough to Windy Hill

Due to the somewhat remote location of the wedding venue, we plan to have a shuttle available to transport guests to and from downtown Hillsborough and Windy Hill Farm during the evening of May 24th. Stay tuned for more logistical details and a shuttle schedule.
