It was a beautiful Sunday in April when I met the love of my life. I’d recently agreed to let a friend of mine introduce me to one of her friends, an absolute stunner of a woman. Her name was Bonnie Blue Hamrick. A group of us were going to lunch after church, so my friend invited Bonnie to come along. Seating was awkward at this long picnic table, and we couldn’t see or hear each other all that well. I wanted to talk to her so badly, but I wanted to be cool and natural. There was a debate going on at the table, “what is the best kind of fry?” Bonnie exclaimed “waffle fries are elite!” By the time lunch ended, our ONLY interaction was an answer to this one question… A couple days passed and I decided to send her a message on Instagram to shoot my shot. “I know that waffle fries are your favorite fry, but I’d enjoy learning some other things about you if dinner this weekend sounds interesting to you?” Send. She replied “That sounds nice! I’m free Friday”. An absolute relief to my beating heart. I sent back, “I’ve been told about this place called Emmy Squared that has pizza and waffle fries 👀” to which she replied “That sounds like my dream!” In the history of first dates, none have ever been as perfect. There were very few options on the menu, but the one that stood out to me was called The Seoul Mate. “I’m not sure if this is too forward for this occasion, but The Seoul Mate pizza looks really good.” I said, going out on a limb. With a smile Bonnie agreed “Let’s do it!” Little did these two “soul mates” know, that dinner would set the tone for what has turned into a lifetime spent with their best friend.
