How We Met

He/She lives where?!

We met in November of 2014 at the Advanced Class on To Know God, a one-week Bible retreat in Destin, Florida. We'd both been before, but never at the same time. We were introduced by a mutual friend and saw each other in passing throughout the week. Then, since the retreat took place over the Thanksgiving holiday, our houses were paired together for Thanksgiving dinner. Jonathan's house hosted and we divided up the cooking. Since his family owned a bakery in Maine at the time, he made all the bread from scratch... which piqued Becca's interest, to say the least. We didn't have a chance to talk much on Thanksgiving, but from that point on, there was a mutual interest. At the end of the week, Becca (who could be unexpectedly bold when it came to boys) approached Jonathan and said something to the effect of, "If we lived closer together, would you go on a date with me?" To which he responded, "Yes." (Good answer, by the way!) So we exchanged numbers and started texting each other from the time we left Florida onwards. Every day. There were also a few phone/Skype calls. Within the next few weeks, we established a fast but strong friendship. We were also well-aware of our feelings for each other but unsure about the whole long-distance thing. The hesitancy didn't last long. On December 9th, 2015, Jonathan asked Becca if she wanted to give long-distance a try, and we've been together ever since. In April of 2015, Jon flew out to Kansas City for Becca's senior prom. That was the first time they actually spent time together as a couple. For the next couple of years, they would visit each other on holidays, Becca spending two summers in a row in Maine, working in the bakery. In January of 2017, Jon made the big move out to KC, and in February of 2019, he popped the big question! Needless to say, she said yes!
