How They Met and Became A Couple

"The rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming color."

It has been said that you meet people for various reasons throughout your life, and these two met at a time when they needed each other, but didn't yet know it. I guess one could say the "Three Love Theory" applies without question for them, and they couldn't be happier to have found each other in the autumn of 2019. As fate and the modern romance of the interwebs would have it, Dustin and Annemarie met one evening in Grey Cloud Island Township and their lives were forever changed. Dustin called his mom after the date and said "this girl is sharp," while Annemarie high-fived her late dog, the brilliant Avicii. They were living out the beginning chapters of a life anew, navigating everything from new living situations to complete career changes. I mean who's parents move in with them at 32 years old while they are fresh into the dating pool? They took things slow and got more serious after the new year. Pretty soon a global pandemic turned dates at restaurants into holding hands in the aisles of grocery stores; because what else is there to do when the entire world is shut down? After situations required them to use the terms "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" over the standard "the person I am seeing," they agreed to make it official. I love yous were traded on the fourth of July and they moved in together the following fall. Now no day begins without a kiss on Annemarie's forehead, and they cannot imagine life before meeting each other. They met in a time that can only be described as hollow, bleak, and black and white for Annemarie. However, anyone who knows her will tell you that Dustin brought the color back into her world; and she to his.

How He Asked

The White Rose Saga

They got engaged on the beach in Cabo. Hoping for more details? We thought so... The couple woke up in their balcony suite in San Jose del Cabo to watch the sunrise together. The moment was perfect, he had the ring, but one thing was missing - The white rose. Back in early 2023, Dustin asked Mr. Nemo for permission to marry his favorite daughter. (Sorry, Katherine, I had to). He was granted permission without having to promise the gift of chickens, bees, or goats. But had one request: make sure there is a single white rose with you when you propose. This stemmed from a longtime secret between Mr. Nemo and his daughter: If a red rose is presented that means permission was asked and granted, but not approved. However, a white rose would symbolize the ask and the approval of marriage. What Dustin thought to be a simple task, turned out to be impossible. After calling and emailing the hotel for weeks, visiting the concierge, and looking for a local flower shop, there wasn't a white rose to be found. So as Dustin and Annemarie watched the sunrise, he quickly tried to get rid of her to execute one last mission to find this white rose. In true Annemarie fashion she refused to leave his side saying "Why are you trying to get rid of me? It is the first day of our trip." Not even taking her to the pool with her book kept her from following him back to the room. He quickly and discretely grabbed the ring box before they were to walk on the beach. Where did he put it? In the worlds slimmest running fanny-pack. Naturally, he needed to carry it in his hand to conceal the large box. Annemarie decided since they gave up their prime spot at the pool and he refused to secure another with the fanny-pack, that he should also carry her phone. In another turn of unfortunately events, when Dustin went to retrieve the ring from the world's smallest murse, the box was stuck to Annemarie's phone case and he couldn't get it out before she turned around and ruined the surprise. Yet, as the only two on the beach this morning Dustin quickly professed his love and produced the ring with shaky hands. It was simple, it was quiet, it was a everything they had ever wanted. She said yes and they went about their day glowing. Later that evening, as fate would have it, approval was granted. When they went to dinner at a local restaurant to celebrate, they were greeted with quite the surprise as the meal arrived. Of all the things that could come out on the dinner plate, a root vegetable was carved into a single white rose. Even God approves of this marriage.
