How We Met

October 2015

It all began on Georgia Tech's campus during Emily and Matt's freshman year. After seeing Matt sitting by himself on his fraternity house's steps, Emily and her friend decided to introduce themselves. When Matt revealed that his family also lived outside of Philly, Emily immediately asked for his number. Their fall semester was filled with study dates, football tailgates, and lots of time spent together with friends. By the start of their next semester, Matt asked Emily to be his girlfriend. She said yes! (And then "what took you so long?")

Our Georgia Tech Years

August 2015-May 2019

Emily and Matt navigated the majority of their college years together side by side. They made countless memories, from the excitement of Homecoming events and weekend trips, to the mundanities of late nights in the library. Matt cheered Emily on while she competed in her club lacrosse games, and Emily watched Matt with pride as he led the Ramblin Reck Club as their president. Eventually, Matt was chosen to be Sweetheart of Zeta Tau Alpha (Emily's sorority), and Emily was chosen to be Crescent Girl (Sweetheart) of Lambda Chi Alpha (Matt's fraternity). This was a testament not only to the commitment they had to each other, but also the commitment they had to the friends they had made throughout the years.

Moving to Southern California

August 2019

After graduating from Georgia Tech, Emily moved across the country to start her job with NASA JPL in Pasadena, CA. One year of long-distance later, Matt decided Emily was worth following, and took a job in Los Angeles with Burns & McDonnell. Emily and Matt started to build a life together in Pasadena, with softball games, late night street tacos, Bachelor viewing parties, stargazing, and watering their excessive amount of house plants. Most of their time, however, is spent hanging out with their 6 year old cat, Max. Matt now works fully remote at his new job with CBRE, with Max as his administrative assistant!

The Proposal

August 13, 2022

Six and a half years after Matt had asked Emily to be his girlfriend, he was ready to ask the next big question. Emily thought that her hometown friends were just visiting for their friend's early birthday celebration. A day with her friends in Malibu got Emily out of the apartment, and when she returned, she was met by a note on the door from Matt telling her to meet him up on their roof. Upstairs, Matt was waiting for her, surrounded by candles, flowers, and plants, with the San Gabriel Mountains lit up behind him by the setting sun. Most importantly, he was standing on a blanket depicting the Georgia Tech football field; an ode to where they stood when they first kissed! Matt got down on one knee, revealed a beautiful ring, and asked Emily to be his wife. She said yes! (And then "what took you so long?") A celebration with their friends and (surprise!) their parents followed, as they toasted to the life they would continue to share together.
