The Beginning; El comienzo

Barbara and Ian first met at work in 2013 (!). Bonding over a mutual disapproval of predatory lending and for-profit education, they quickly became friends. Unbeknownst to either, they both started thinking that there could be more to the relationship. Barbara would come home from work and tell her roommate about this funny guy (hi Emilyyyy!) and when Ian finally mustered the courage to ask out the girl from work that he couldn't stop talking about, they were both a little relieved that the awkward stage was over and that they could get on with their lives together. On March 30, 2014, they held hands for the first time in the concourse behind Section 112 at Petco Park and the rest is history. (The Padres would go on to beat the Dodgers 3-1 after a key two-run single by Chris Denorfia in the 8th) Barbara e Ian se conocieron en el 2013 siendo compañeros de trabajo.

The Proposal, La Propuesta

The importance of family is something that Barbara and Ian both hold dear, so Ian knew that Barbara would want hers involved somehow. With that in mind (and a ring in hand) Ian decided to propose at Barbara's grandmother's house in Rosarito - which, to him, had been the focal point of any family gatherings throughout their time dating. Barbara's Nana Elena passed away 2 years prior and Ian wanted to make sure she was present in spirit. Working in cahoots with Barbara's mom, he drove down to Mexico ahead of an unsuspecting Barbara, who was under the impression that she was going to visit her mom. Surviving his first solo drive down, and having saved every Valentines, Christmas, (and insert here any holiday) cards from the previous six years, Ian decorated the dining room with flowers and those cards as little reminders of how far they had come and all of the times they had shared. When Barbara walked in, Ian wasted no time getting down on one knee and asking Barbara to be his wife. In complete shock, Barbara said, "YESSS!".

Our Hope; Nuestra Esperanza

We know the world has been turned upside down, and we are of course aware of, and sensitive to the ongoing pandemic. Safety will be paramount. We have gone into wedding planning with the hope that our dream becomes a reality, and at the same time, if need be, we will convert it into a virtual ceremony where you can join us from afar. If needed, we will be re-evaluating our guest count in the months closer to the date in order to adhere to any and all regulations.
