During our stay, you will get to experience the beautiful beachfront of Herceg Novi. There are many beaches along the sea-front walkway and road where you can relax and swim. The beaches rent out their lounge chairs (usually around €7, cash only), but you can bypass this cost by sitting at a café table and ordering a drink—our recommendation is a 'hladni Nes café,' which is an iced coffee—or you can bypass any cost by simply laying your towel on the pebble rocks or cement part of the beach. Feel free to sit at a chair, and a waiter will come to you. Most waiters do speak English, although some do not, so please be patient and kind. NOTE: Watch out for sea urchins on the rock floor/walls! These hurt!
We highly recommend exploring the beach-front walkway and road. This scenic route stretches along the entire city of Herceg Novi, offering gorgeous water views, numerous restaurants, and beach access.
In Old Town (“Stari Grad” in Serbian), you can visit the historic old town cafes, shops, bars, the Kanli kula (fortress), and Forte Mare (fortress). The atmosphere is charming, with wandering streets and occasional special events.
The night life of Montenegro contains many bars and restaurants with live music along the strip. These places are lovely places to visit and experience the local culture. The outdoor music can continue until 1 a.m., when the bars and restaurants close. Bars we recommend: Pivnica, Djir, any bars along the long stairs down from old town to Škver. We recommend the club Peoples if you are looking for livelier experience after 1 am. We do not recommend going to other clubs like Casa, or la Bamba. We do not recommend going to these other clubs unless you are with a native Montenegrin. There are some clubs that are less accompanying to foreign visitors, and we would like to prevent any incidents from occurring. Safety is a factor here. However, any bars and restaurants along the beachfront are fair game. If you do choose to go to a club, know that there are some potential risks, and be on your best behavior. Montenegrins highly value respect.
Outside of Herceg Novi, we highly recommend Tara River Rafting near the Montenegro/Bosnia border. It’s the best rafting experience Bobby and Kat have ever had—and they’ve rafted across multiple continents.
Outside of Herceg Novi In Montenegro, there is the lovely city of Kotor, a picturesque coastal town nestled in the stunning Bay of Kotor with well-preserved medieval architecture and dramatic natural scenery, about 1-1.5 hours away. You can take a tourism boat or taxi there. Tourism boats around the bay of Kotor can be booked at Škver in Herceg Novi, near the water polo/swim pool.
Outside of Herceg Novi Montenegro there is the stunning city of Dubrovnik in Croatia (King’s Landing from Game of Thrones). It's a beautiful experience known for its well-preserved medieval old town and dramatic seaside location. We recommend Buza Bar I and Buza Bar II, enchanting bars on the outside borders of the fortress walls of Old Town Dubrovnik.
