No trip to LA is complete with a stroll along the Venice Boardwalk. Kaylie was walking along the beach one day when she first realized Bobby was the one, and she lived in Venice when they met and fell in love. Venice Ale House, Fig Tree Cafe, The Terrace and The Whaler are all favorite spots to eat and look out at the ocean. Have a drink at High, the rooftop bar at Hotel Erwin. If you sit with a towel, be sure to buy some fruit from the ladies walking by - and ask for it spicy!
A visit to the Getty means an afternoon spent looking at masterpieces plus beautiful gardens and an excellent view of LA. It's FREE too! Don't miss Van Gogh's "Irises." Kaylie has had a print of it hanging in her house since college! Bring your own picnic to eat on the lawn or grab some food at their restaurant.
Hiking is one of our favorite things to do, and this hike is a treat! It's at most 20 minutes from downtown Santa Monica, and you can be up in the trees of the Santa Monica Mountains. The moderate uphill trail leads to the best reward: a killer view of the ocean to the right, and all of LA to the left. Park for free on Sunset and walk into the park, or pay the state parking fee inside.
The newest art museum is right in the middle of DTLA, or what Bobby would call, "the best place on earth." Tickets are free and can be reserved online in advance. If you didn't reserve online, there is a line for tickets every day,
Griffith park has it all. For a close view of the Hollywood Sign and incredible views of LA, head up to the observatory. It's free to enter and you don't need a ticket in advance. There are tons of hikes in Griffith park as well. This is really close to the Gurdwara and would be a great place to stop before changing into your dancing shoes for the reception. Parking can be tough on a Saturday but the pros outweigh the cons for sure!
Spend an afternoon or evening living like Kaylie and Bobby. Their neighborhood is full of cool restaurants, breweries and shops. Don't miss the ice cream at Salt & Straw, or stop in for a beer at Angel City Brewery. You can play skee ball at Arts District Brewery or tour the art gallery that seems more like a museum, Hauser and Wirth.
