Bo's version: "We met at church (yay Redeemer!) and specifically, at a game night." Young's version: "Bo was impressed at Young's talent for board games and she fell madly in love."
Young and Bo separately went to a Redeemer Young Adult event and spent the night hanging out with different people. We each went home and thought nothing of it. Later that night, after a friendly and flirtatious text exchange, we found ourselves meeting at a Mexican restaurant at 1:30AM. We were dressed in sweats, and spent two hours sharing about our families and backgrounds over Carne Asada Fries. Young was sure Bo was interested. She says she was not. Liar.
Well...technically it was supposed to be a trip to the Del Mar Fair as friends, but then Young called Bo a couple of days before and confessed that he was interested in her, asked if they could make it a date instead. She was very surprised, started sweating, and hesitatingly said "yes." We ended up going on an eight hour first date!
It was a super special day! Bo made plans to hang out with her girlfriends at a cute restaurant. Jaz picked up Bo and they went to pick up Janet. When they got to Janet's they were asked to come "check out" something in the yard. As Bo walked over, the gate swung wide open and she was shocked to see her friends and family gathered in one place. Bo's friends, who were either holding a rose or iPad/laptop with additional family and friends who called in, made a pathway that ended with Young waiting for her (and looking mighty fine). Young said a bunch of sweet things that Bo partially remembers (he knew this would happen and thoughtfully had phrases of his speech etched into wooden tags that are now in a beautiful shadow box), and then asked if she was "ready for this." He then got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She, very romantically, started sobbing into her roses and it was only when she came up for air that she gave a weepy "yes!" Afterward, they celebrated with friends by partaking in the variety of "Bo's favorite things!" that included: spring rolls from Brodard's, soboro cream pastries from Tour Les Jour Bakery, peanut M&Ms, chocolate chip cookies, parmesan garlic & Doritos nacho cheese chips, a beautiful charcuterie board, and milk tea from Gongcha. All this yummy goodness because Young knew the key to Bo's heart was/is amazing food. After that, Young whisked Bo away to her favorite restaurant, Barbusa in Little Italy, for a romantic celebratory dinner. It was a sweet and wonderful day that will go down as one of the most memorable for Bo and Young...but mostly for Bo.
