In 2014, I was still a senior in high school. My friends and I would gather almost every day after school and on the weekends to play volleyball at Charlie Daniels Park. Sometimes we would play outside and sometimes we would play inside. The inside area was where the boys all played basketball. They would get so mad at us when we wanted to play volleyball on their court. Chris being one of them.. One day when we were playing outside, him and his cocky basketball friends decided to try to beat us at our game! He still says they won, but the lady is always right! Right? The rest is history! Shortly after we started hanging out, we became the best of friends. We were inseparable. He came to my 18th birthday party, my high school graduation, and every other event from here on out. I guess you could say we are high school sweethearts!
Waking up on Christmas morning was very different for Christopher and I. We had been quarantined for 8 days already due to Covid-19 exposure. We were unable to be with our families except for my parents who were sick with the virus. We watched my neices and nephews open their gifts on a facetime call and then it was our turn to open gifts! I knelt down on the floor to sort out the gifts and stood up with a gift for Chris. There he was, on one knee, with a ring in one hand, and my family in the other on facetime. Of course i said YES! And my family got to be “with us” through the whole thing. For such circumstances, it was all a girl could ask for!
