Tyler and Steph met at Hideaway in Hoffman Estates, IL through mutual friends. In true Tyler fashion, he was shy when he first met Steph. Steph wanted to know why he was so quiet so she jokingly asked him in front of the group, which got a laugh reaction. Tyler was thrown off, but he was into her vibe. They went back to their friend groups at the event and Steph could not stop thinking about him. She confessed to Allison (one of her bridesmaids) that she thought he was cute. Since Steph felt a little nervous to go back and chat with him some more, Allison's boyfriend Ryan hip-checked Steph so that she would bump back into Tyler. Steph and Tyler spent the next hour or so getting to know each other and dancing to the music. Martin (one of Tyler's friends) even got a few photos and videos of them together on the night they met! At the end of the night, Tyler got Steph's number and they were eager to see each other soon, so they planned their first date for the very next night! The rest is history... <3

In the early stages of planning, Tyler bought the ring and had it shipped to his parents house so Steph wouldn't accidentally open it thinking it's her Amazon package. Tyler kept the ring hidden for months in his childhood room in anticipation for the big day. A few days before Steph and Tyler departed home for their hiking trip in Utah, they went to Tyler's parents' house for dinner and he took home the ring by disguising it in a cereal box he brought home. Steph was not suspicious since he frequently brings home food from his parents' house. When Steph and Tyler made it to Zion National Park, they won the hiking lottery for the Angels Landing trail, an iconic hike and not for those who are afraid of heights. With the ring in his hiking backpack, Tyler kept up normal appearances while they hiked up the mountain for 5 miles. At the top of Angels Landing, he pulled out his phone to take a video of them. With perfect blue skies, shining sun, and canyon views all around, he got down on one knee and proposed to Steph!
