How it began for Her

Growing up around his family, I knew of Spencer but never really KNEW Spencer. I followed along with his travels on the Appalachian Trail and it sparked my love not only for the outdoors but the future love of my life. I remember sitting at the kitchen table watching his most recent update and praying "Lord if it be your will...I WANT THIS MAN!" : ) God knew the desires of my heart! After almost three years of waiting, on a seemingly normal night I got a text from an unknown number saying “Hey Hannah, this is Spencer King...” I was so taken aback and thought I was going to die of happiness! He was always so quiet and between seeing him at family gatherings, high school youth group and a few house visits with his dad, we may have only said five words to eachother before. The next day we went on a hike at Treman Park...our first date! Both being so shy I was worried there was going to be a lot of awkward silence. Thankfully he is good at asking questions and I'm good at answering them. I had a great time and knew it was just the first of many. I think he made me wait a solid (agonizing) week before he texted me again asking if I wanted to go kayaking with him. He took me to a spot in Montour, full of wildlife and a beautiful sunset. Afterwards we got ice cream and enjoyed just talking to each other but figured it was time to go when we realized the shop was closed and the lights overhead had shut off. Our second date was when we really began to realize how much we had in common and loved spending time together...and I was ready to say “I do”! That next week he was away on a biking trip with a friend. I waited all week to hear from him but eventually couldn't wait any longer. So I sent him a text. Turns out he had just gotten home and was about to text me right at the same time. Even to this day we just seem to know at times when we're thinking of each other. God gave me my best friend and I couldn't have asked for a better man to spend the rest of my life with.

How it began for Him

For as long as our two families have known each other I didn’t really start talking to Hannah until this last year. The past two years my dad and I have gone to the Ennis’ to help out doing odd jobs.. Hannah was always eager to give us a hand with whatever we were doing. We didn’t really acknowledge one another much, if at all when working. Looking back now it's funny that I never struck up a conversation with her while we were working, we’ve come a long way. I’ve always had a hard time talking to people I didn’t know, but when you throw in a cute hardworking girl like Hannah well that's on a whole other level. After some encouragement from my parents I texted Hannah one day in early August to see if she wanted to go for a hike at Treman State Park. To my surprise she said yes. I thought the date went well even though she didn’t say very much. We planned a second date, a kayak trip with ice cream afterwards. This date I feel is when we really started to hit it off. We spent a few hours just talking and getting to know each other. I can remember on the drive back to her house saying “man my throat is parched, I don’t normally talk this much”. After texting back and forth that night I didn’t hear from her for about a week. I needed to know she was interested in me too and was praying asking God for a sign. When I came back from a week long trip to New Hampshire I was just going to text her when she sent me a text at the exact same time, I took that to be a sign. As time went on we started spending more time together. Being away at school made it hard to see each other but I tried to come back almost every weekend just to spend time with her. It’s was becoming apparent that Hannah was going to be the ONE. After over a month of waiting for the ring to come I was finally able to pop the question at Watkins Glen State Park, a favorite place of ours. Thankfully she said yes!! And that’s the really shortened version of our relationship from beginning to engagement.
