They met on orientation day, junior year, at Middleburg High. She was transferring to the school & a mutual friend got them in contact. He was waiting for her at the school's main entrance & he was the first friend she made at her new school. He was very kind; walking her & her grandmother around the school, giving them a little private tour. Having him to say hi to in the halls comforted her as she prepared to start the new school year.
After high school, she moved away to college & he stuck around their hometown. They both kept in contact over the years via social media; getting all the typical life updates. Fast forward a few years later & she was on her way back to Jacksonville. He found this out & decided to reach out to her, see how she was feeling about her big move back. Who knew a quick text would lead to something more.
She hadn't been to Disney since she was a little girl, he used to go all the time due to his family being vacation club members. She had one more day left on her park pass, so he sucked it up & went with her. Epcot was the move, drinking around the world was the mission. They were having a blast! Laughing, smiling, eating, & drinking the day away. They were reaching their last few stops & he just knew it was the right time to ask her. Finally, after years of being friends, he asked her to be his girlfriend. There was something always there between them. Without hesitation, she said yes & gave him a sweet kiss. Hand in hand, they finished their mission of drinking around the world.
He had been brainstorming for (about) three months how, where, when to ask the big question. Their upcoming trip to Colorado was the perfect opportunity! Luckily, he had a buddy who recently moved up there. He thought his friend could be tag along & capture the big moment. There was a little pumpkin patch he found & thought it would be a cute little spot. But she, per usual, was stubborn & did not want to go to the pumpkin patch. Instead, she wanted to hike & explore the Rocky Mountains. He was panicking. His friend couldn't drive that far, so there goes his photographer. They hiked up to Alberta Falls, it was mainly frozen slush. Out of breath, they hiked over to Nymph Lake. He wanted to purpose, but he wanted the scenery & moment to be just right. He asked her if she thought the lake was a pretty spot. Unfortunately, the lake was mainly frozen & looked dull. He agreed with her & kept the ring in his pocket. Just as they were about to leave, he said to try one more lake just up the trail. They trotted along & stumbled upon beautiful Bear Lake. He didn't even have to ask; in his heart he knew this was the spot. Luckily there were many people gathered around to admire the views. He asked a group of people standing by & informed them of his plan to purpose! He turned back around & slipped back over to where she stood, patiently freezing & waiting to take a photo. Little did she know he life was about to change for the better. He turned to her & expressed how much he loved her. She was confused as to why he was saying this while the wind whipped around them & she was trying not to bust her behind on the ice. Before she realized, he was down on one knee. He said "Paige, will you make me the happiest man & marry me?" She was overcome with happiness & love, for the love of her life just asked her the most important question. Without hesitation, she nodded & responded "YES!"
