How We Met

Blake's Perspective

Somehow I always seem to have luck on my side and I always can find a four leaf clover whenever I need it - this leads me to how I met Colleen. I always board with zone one when I fly no matter what even when I'm supposed to board later, yeah I'm that guy. I like to get seated, comfortable, and watch as the crowd fights for the remaining over head bins. Well this particular flight something different happened and it changed my life forever. I'm sitting down beside the window, incredibly sun burnt as I had just finished a week at the beach when out of the corner of my eye I see this beautiful woman board the plane. One by one she passes all the other rows and lo and behold she quietly puts her bag down next to me. Now if any of you know me (and I'd be willing to bet most of you reading this know me pretty well) you know that I'm not a very shy person, so I start thinking of an in. So I sit there in silence for what feels like was an eternity, but in all actuality was probably around three minutes and twenty seven seconds. So I scheme over on this cute brunette and I see that she is looking up Game of Thrones stuff on her phone. I think to myself, there's my in! I say loudly and extremely awkwardly, "hey you like Game of Thrones too!" "So who do you think Jon Snow actually is?" She looks up at me with a look on her face like "wow, who is this creep and why is he talking to me." We then proceed to talk about Game of Thrones and God only knows what else for the entire flight and before I knew it we had landed in Atlanta. I'm thinking it's now or never and I have to make my move. Of course I was able to get her digits and then she says, "it's not a fake number either I promise." She then proceeded to add me on Facebook like three minutes later, and I had no idea what I'd gotten myself into... and the rest is history. God has truly blessed me - sometimes life is all about timing and awkward conversations about Game of Thrones. I love you Colleen.

How He Asked

Colleen's Perspective

Blake and I met on a plane, what are the odds? One year after our first and only date, I called him out of the blue to tell him I shouldn't have blown him off for the second date. He told me he moved to Florida. But when he was in town for family a few weeks later, I got that second date, and we've been a thing ever since! After about a year or so of long distance I knew he was the one for me, and Blake packed up his things and made the leap to live in Atlanta! After two years of dating I was convinced he was going to pop the question, but he was all crickets on his end. My birthday March 17th came around and he hadn't mentioned anything about plans/ gifts/ get togethers - this guy gives me a play by play for holidays. I called my parents to ask what they wanted to do for my birthday and they brushed it off. In hindsight poor Blake just wanted to propose and I was getting upset that neither my boyfriend nor my parents had thought ahead to celebrate my 25th! He surprised me (after three night shifts) with breakfast and a trip to my parents for cake and presents. Then off to a surprise location. As soon as I figured out it was Oakland Cemetery, I started getting nauseous. Whether it was because I knew he was going to ask or the night shift sleeplessness kicked in, we will never know. A couple loops around our favorite walking place and a few awkward silent moments later (we both never shut up) we sat on a bench that Blake had picked out the previous day as the "perfect spot." I nearly puked, so we started walking somewhere else, and then he got on one knee. A few slurred words later and some tears, we were engaged. And about 20 minutes later, I couldn't stop bawling my eyes out and he couldn't stop smiling. I have no idea how I was so lucky to sit next to this man on that Delta flight. No idea how lucky I was for him to answer the my phone call a year after our first date. But here we are. Can't wait to annoy you for the rest of our lives Blake!
