Places to Eat and Things to Do

We're so excited to share a few of our favorite things to do in the area as well as a few of our favorite places to eat! The "Places to Eat" are on the lower half of the page- and we even included what we each order in case you needed recommendations! Please keep in mind that as this is New Year's Weekend in New Orleans, so if your plans involve tickets or reservations, we strongly suggest that you book them in advance.

Commander's Palace

1403 Washington Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70130

A New Orleans classic, Commander's Palace is known for their Jazz Brunch and is a frequent flyer on "Must-Try" and "Top 10" restaurant review websites. Their local ingredients and friendly jazz bands make this a must-try when you're in town. Reservations fill up quickly though- so if you plan to eat here, call now! R & O Restaurant and Catering

216 Metairie-Hammond Highway, Metairie, LA 70005

A hidden gem by Lake Pontchartrain, this classic New Orleans restaurant is somewhere Breland went often growing up, and is the place Blake realized he loves a muffaletta! Blake's Order: Muffaletta sandwich Breland's Order: Shrimp salad and cup of oyster soup

Arnaud's New Orleans

813 Bienville Street, New Orleans, LA 70112

Arnaud's is another New Orleans classic. With a rich connection to the city, the walls are adorned with pieces of history such as Mardi Gras memorabilia, photographs, and murals depicting the love affair between Arnaud's and New Orleans. Blake's order: Souffle Potatoes and Breast of Duck Ellen or Filet au Poivre Breland's order: Oysters Arnaud (one of each of their signature baked oysters) and the seasonal Fish Pontchartrain

Dat Dog

DatDog is another of our favorite places in town. With lots of different styles of hotdogs, there’s something for everyone! Blake's order: Irish Channel Dog Breland's order: Beef hotdog with ketchup, mayo, mustard, grilled onion, cheese, tomato, and pickles

SushiNami

3131 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA 70002

SushiNami is one of our favorite places to dine in New Orleans. We eat here almost every time we're in town! They have an all-you-can-eat sushi option (that also includes cooked items, tempura, salads, soups, etc.) that we certainly make the most of! If you go here, know that you are able to order just a HALF roll, allowing you to try even more rolls! Superior Grill

Before he ate at Bon Ton Prime Rib, Superior Grill was Blake’s favorite place to eat in New Orleans! They have outstanding margaritas and some of the best fajitas you’ll have in your entire life! Blake's order: ribeye fajitas Breland's order: steak fajitas with a large guacamole

Bon Ton Prime Rib

401 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70130

Bon Ton is our absolute favorite place to eat. Anywhere. They have a smaller menu, but it's because they really excel at what they do. Prime Rib comes a perfect medium rare, and Blake still dreams of the shellfish bisque and the butter cake (which is big enough to share). El Gato Negro - French Market

81 French Market Place, New Orleans, LA 70116

Breland grew up biking to El Gato Negro, and it continues to be one of her favorite places to get guacamole. It’s made right there at your table! Their signature cilantro and orange margarita is out of this world! Blake's order: 1 steak taco and 1 shrimp taco Breland's order: 1 steak taco and 1 gulf shrimp taco with pico de gallo and guacamole, and a Stuffed Avocado appetizer

Frankie & Johnny's

321 Arabella Street, New Orleans, LA 70115

Breland used to frequent Frankie & Johnny's when she was in high school, as Newman is relatively close to here. The laid-back atmosphere is the perfect complement to the delicious food! Blake's order: Roast beef poboy (dressed) and chargrilled oysters. Sometimes debris fries. Breland's order: 1/2 dozen raw oysters, and a fried oyster poboy (dressed)

Felipe's Mexican Taqueria

6215 South Miro Street, New Orleans, LA 70125

A chipotle-style dive where you build your meal item-by-item at the counter, Felipe's is a New Orleans classic. Here, a "quesadilla" is shaped like a burrito, but still features the crispy soft tortilla and melty cheese of a traditional quesadilla. Blake's order: Steak quesadilla with guacamole, sour cream, corn, fajita veggies, and pickled jalapeños Breland's order: Steak quesadilla with pico de gallo and guacamole

Bud's Broiler

2929 North Causeway Boulevard, Metairie, LA 70002

A recent discovery for Blake, but a childhood favorite for Breland, Bud's Broiler has (you-guessed-it) broiled burgers that feature a delicious hickory sauce, which makes for a delicious burger experience. Blake's Order: No. 4 (cheesburger) with sauce, onions, and pickles. Add mayo. Breland's Order: No. 2 (burger) with sauce, onion, and extra extra pickles.
