Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Blake Symonds and Alexandra Arneson
New Orleans is a city both rich in culture and things to do. It's easy to fill your days and nights with memorable experiences; the hardest part is choosing! We are both self proclaimed foodies, and from fresh local oysters to beignets with café au lait, it's safe to say NOLA has you [and your palate] covered. Between the French Quarter's energetic streets, the hidden gems on Magazine Street, the blues and jazz of Frenchman Street, and the many cultural attractions scattered all across the city - It's easy enough to grab a drink and a slice of pizza, and wander aimlessly to your next adventure. Naturally, we recommend that you do! However, some of the best experiences are planned. Striking a balance between the two, offsetting each other's travel styles, has enriched our travel experiences; especially in NOLA. Here are a few recommendations that we've really enjoyed, just to spark some creativity and maybe capture your interest.
Kayak Swamp Tours and Whitney Plantation Tours

Kayak Swamp Tours and Whitney Plantation Tours

740 North Rampart Street, New Orleans, LA 70116

This company offers kayak swamp tours and Whitney Plantation tours. We bought ours as a combo package and it was a highlight of our trip! A shuttle to both activities and lunch were included.

St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 Official Tour

St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 Official Tour

501 Basin Street, New Orleans, LA 70112

See the raised burial structures and pre-arranged celebrity shrine (It's a thing, go see for yourself. Guess who?) This one is cheap and well worth the time.

New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum

New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum

724 Dumaine Street, New Orleans, LA 70116

Just like it sounds, a museum dedicated to the beliefs and practice of voodoo. Cheap and fun, pop in after lunch or some drinks and have a look around.

Jean Lafitte Swamp Tour

Jean Lafitte Swamp Tour

6601 Leo Kerner Lafitte Pkwy, Marrero, LA 70072

See the swamp, hold a 'gator... who knows.

Café Du Monde Riverwalk

Café Du Monde Riverwalk

500 Port of New Orleans Place, New Orleans, LA 70130

Known for café au laits, chicory coffee & beignets. This is the original iconic New Orleans cafe. Be it for breakfast or a midnight energy boost, don't miss out on this.

Old Absinthe House

Old Absinthe House

240 Bourbon Street, New Orleans, LA 70112

Located on the famous Bourbon Street, the absinthe house is a historical speakeasy with a nod to the city's French Creole roots. Have a properly louched pour of the green stuff if you haven't before; it's polarizing, but we enjoy it.

30°/-90°

30°/-90°

520 Frenchmen Street, New Orleans, LA 70116

Live music, good food and drink, and the freshest local $.75 happy hour oysters we've ever had. Prepare for standing room only, but it's worth it.

The Rum House

The Rum House

3128 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70115

They may not serve gumbo or shrimp and grits, but their tacos and rum are every bit a New Orleans staple as far as we're concerned! This neighborhood also pulls out all the stops with Halloween decoration; one house in particular is a whole show all on it's own.

For all the days along the way
