How we met (twice)

It all started at the beach — as many great love stories do. Callie and Blaine first met during a friend’s birthday trip to Myrtle Beach. It was one of those spontaneous weekends where the sun is hot, the laughter is loud, and new connections happen almost effortlessly. They noticed each other right away. She thought he was cute, funny, and kind — and he thought the same of her. But, like so many almost-love stories, neither of them knew the other felt that way. So they shared a weekend, swapped smiles and jokes, and enjoyed the company of their mutual friends — before parting ways. The timing just wasn’t right. Blaine was heading off to Navy boot camp that Monday. Callie was about to begin her senior year of college. Life had set them on separate paths. Or so it seemed. Fast forward a year and some change. Callie had gone to visit that same friend again, and the two of them decided on a spontaneous girls’ trip. The destination? A random southern city they’d never been to — picked last-minute, without realizing it was the very place Blaine was now stationed. A total “what are the chances?” kind of moment. They reconnected that weekend — going out for the night with Blaine and his friends, dancing, laughing, and soaking in the easy, unexpected joy of being around each other again. The next morning, they went to church together, followed by breakfast — a simple moment filled with grace, bacon, and the undeniable feeling that something was starting. From that weekend on, their story truly began. They’ve been long-distance ever since — Blaine in South Carolina, Callie in Nebraska — trading off flights, road trips, FaceTimes, and weekend reunions. Along the way, they’ve created memories across state lines: spontaneous getaways and unforgettable adventures with friends. Though Callie might say she made the first move, Blaine definitely met her there. From the beginning, they both leaned in. They both felt it. And they’ve never let go. They’re lovers at heart — joyful, intentional, and grounded in something much deeper than just timing or chance. Their shared love for Jesus is the anchor in their relationship — steadying them through the distance and drawing them even closer to each other. And somehow, this story that started at the beach, drifted apart, then found its way back — is just getting started.
