She made the first move... because that's how Bumble works. Kevin knew that with his perfectly curated profile photos, charm, and witty humor, he would surely lock in a first date. Lo and behold, Katie opened up the conversation with a witty and braggadocios comment on headstands (one of Kevin's profile photos was him doing a handless headstand on a snowboard - an impressive eye-catching photo for an easy ice-breaking opener. Katie, however, had a much more classic, yet perfectly executed, handstand on the beach). After some back and forth banter and rapport building, Kevin finally asked Katie out for a drink. So, they exchanged numbers and Kevin suggested a wine bar near Katie's apartment: Max's Wine Dive. On a warm autumn evening, Katie rushed from her apartment to Max's (roughly 100 yards door to door), breaking a mild sweat from her dash (though one might think it was from the anticipated excitement). Kevin, anxious for their first date, called his brother Steve for a pre-date pep-talk. Steve, who was no stranger to Bumble and other online dating sites, reassured him to be himself and have fun with it. So he did. As he entered the restaurant, he spotted the beautiful brunette with a big smile sitting at the end of the bar. They sat there chatting for hours. They had three drinks, which was one more than Katie's usual two drink max on a first date, and shared a plate of truffle fries. Kevin drove Katie home, even though it was just that 100 yard walk. Fast forward, four years later... In the thick of a worldwide pandemic and after many months of lockdown, Kevin and Katie made their way to Aspen for a stay-cation. Early for a dinner reservation, they took a walk around town, speaking of future hopes and plans. In the town square, Kevin took off his mask, dropped to one knee, and asked Katie if she "wanted to make it official." Laughing in disbelief, Katie finally pulled it together and of course, said yes. And the rest, as they say, is history.
