We met at the start of the new year in 2015 while we were both taking a communications class at SUNY Orange. On the first day of class, we did an exercise to introduce ourselves to our classmates. I (Samantha) began talking about my interest in biological sciences and Zachary quickly took note of this commonality. I quite literally mean "took note" here. Zachary ended up showing me a small notebook he used to keep with him sometime down the road which had a note saying something like "should talk to the girl in my communications class - she is going for a biology degree and we may have some things in common. " Although I didn't know this at the time, I instantly became fascinated when Zachary introduced himself as a park ranger. A few classes went by and we'd catch each other making awkward eye contact until Zachary asked me if I'd like to walk to our next classes together since he'd noticed us walking in the same direction. After a few walks together, Zachary asked me if I'd like to go on a date and I eagerly replied "yes." At the time, I thought Zachary had planned to ask me on a specific date but it turns out that he was surprised I actually said yes and had to think on his feet. Luckily, I had been standing near a poster which advertised an upcoming play about Chinese medicine on the college campus and that's where we went for our first date.
