How We Met

Circa 2008

To this day, people's eyes bulge out of their sockets when we tell them we met in Middle School. We let them know we have not been together THAT long but are lucky enough to have seen each other grow through many of life's changes. Our story began as acquaintances who appeared to be complete opposites on the outside but found many similarities and shared interests. We became close friends who looked out for one another and learned many lessons together. Our bond stayed strong through college, and, as fate would have it, the relationship blossomed when we were both ready to admit things were changing. Taking that leap of faith was the best choice. We're each the other's biggest fans and supporters through whatever is thrown our way. Whether it's loss, moving to a new city, a career change, or everyday battles. Through it all, we thoroughly enjoy spending our life together. Traveling the world, indulging in endless foods, attending sporting events and concerts, and some friendly competition wouldn't be the same without the other.

The Proposal

07.01.23

The weekend of our 7th anniversary, Taylor brought us back to his hometown, Cardiff-by-the-Sea. The expectations were to spend time with close friends, catch a sunset by the beach if the weather permitted, and grab dinner at one of his favorite local spots, the Brigantine. A restaurant that his dad opened the oyster bar for back in the day. In hindsight, Taylor's endless pacing while Sami was getting ready for dinner was the first sign that something was up. His relentless urging to ensure we were on time for the sunset on a wicked cloudy and chilly day was the second sign that made Sami think twice. His pushing several times for Sami to leave her shoes and bag in a random sand dune at the beach was the final indicator that something was indeed happening. At that point, the gig was up, and Taylor said, "It's because I'm proposing." He got down on one knee and asked, "Will you marry me?" After a brief pause, he remembered his manners and added, "Please?" Sami was at a loss for words and could only laugh as Taylor got up and searched for an answer. She finally spit out the word yes with a beaming smile, and Taylor eagerly presented Sami with the perfect ring. It was a superb accessory to complete her wet hair, sweatshirt, and unpolished nails. In reality, most things don't go as planned, but putting that ring on, taking photos, and going to dinner to celebrate felt as natural as anything would for us.
