How We Met

October 9th, 2014

A tale as old as time. It was a dating app. This now-defunct app (spoiler alert: you’re reading their one success story) had one male and one female as the leads of their respective groups, instructed to bring two friends each, for a six person “blind date.” Brittany received texts from her friends asking her if she would be free to take the place of someone else who had to cancel and she chose, just this once, having a drink in public over wearing sweatpants at home. Upon arrival the guys were missing one of their group . . . someone who had driven miles to the opposite end of Wilshire Boulevard [editor’s note: Wilshire spans the entirety of Los Angeles and is so long that the same address numbers are used multiple times. You would have been late, too]. About 45 minutes later, Clayton bounded into the bar to meet with the waiting group and enjoyed a night of games, laughter and being coaxed into trying some crazy nightmare drink because Brittany challenged him and pretended she’d already tried it (she hadn’t). Brittany left the bar in a rush, as she doesn't love late nights, and they parted ways. Clayton, sheepish about having been an hour late to meet the love of his life, hadn’t asked for Brittany’s phone number, and needed the help of another group member who had acquired the number of one of Brittany’s friends. This inadvertantly resulted in a text/photo version of "Can I have your phone number? Circle Yes or No.” Brittany returned a photo of a handwritten “yes,” right above her phone number. And the rest, as they say . . . has been pretty great.
