Jake and Katy met the way so many great love stories begin, through mutual friends. In September 2023, Katy was hosting one of her usual UGA watch parties at her house in Smyrna with a few friends. At the same time, Jake and his buddies were at the Georgia Tech football game and needed a place to recoup before heading to the Braves game later that night. Sam and Cole texted Katy asking if they could stop by, and when they mentioned they were bringing a few friends, she said, “the more the merrier!” Katy was texting Sam and Cole from inside the house and had no idea who else was coming as it was "just a few friends from home". The second Jake got out of the car, she peeked through the window immediately said, “Who is that? I call dibs!” to Dwyer before ever officially meeting him. Naturally, after that bold declaration, Katy spent the next part of the afternoon completely ignoring Jake because she was too nervous to talk to him, leaving Jake to go out of his way to start the conversation. Later that night, the group headed to the Braves game, where Sam made sure Jake knew Katy thought he was cute. From there, the rest was history. The night ended dancing at PBR surrounded by friends, and the beginning of a story that led us here today.
