Mount Marathon rises right behind Downtown Seward—a steep, rugged mountain known for one of Alaska’s most famous races and some of the best views of Resurrection Bay. There are a few different trails/ ways to hike this. The hike is about 4.2 miles round trip with just under 3000 ft elevation gain.
The "Exit Glacier trail" is not a single trail but a network of trails in Kenai Fjords National Park's Exit Glacier Area, including the easy, paved Glacier View Loop Trail to a view of the glacier's terminus and the more strenuous Glacier Overlook Trail to a closer viewpoint. The longer Harding Icefield Trail ascends 4 miles one-way to an overlook of the vast icefield itself.
Thumb Cove, located on the east side of Resurrection Bay, about nine miles south of Seward, features dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and the Porcupine Glacier. The park offers two rentable public-use cabins: Porcupine Glacier and Spruce Glacier. The Cabins can be accessed by water taxis that can be purchased/ run out of Millers Landing which is a campground down the road from the Salted Roots cabins. These cabins get booked out fast, so plan well ahead if this is something you're intrested in!
