Things To Do

These are some of our favorite things to do in San Diego. It really is an amazing city with so many wonderful things to do and fantastic places to explore!
Ocean Beach

Ocean Beach

Newport Ave, San Diego, CA 92107

Ocean Beach is a vibrant, bohemian neighborhood, with a classic SoCal beach vibe. Surfers and sunbathers fill the namesake beach, while Ocean Beach Pier is a popular local fishing spot with sweeping views. Nearby, Newport Avenue is lined with antiques shops, beachwear and surf boutiques, organic groceries, taquerias and brewpubs. The Ocean Beach Farmers Market features live music. This is where we lived while in San Diego we might be bias but we think it is the best part of town

Balboa Park

Balboa Park

San Diego, CA
, (619) 239-0512

Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre urban cultural park in San Diego. In addition to open space areas, natural vegetation zones, green belts, gardens, and walking paths, it contains museums, several theaters, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo.

La Jolla Cove

La Jolla Cove

San Diego, CA 92037

Though initially intended for children, as locals well know, it has also become a favorite place for seals. La Jolla Cove has become so famous for the seal population that it’s even gained media attention. Oftentimes the entire beach will be filled with them; especially during pupping season. BUT beware when you go! Try and avoid low tide because it can get very stinky!!

San Diego Zoo

San Diego Zoo

2920 Zoo Drive, San Diego, CA 92101
, (619) 231-1515

The Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in the tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

La Jolla

La Jolla

San Diego, CA

La Jolla is a smart seaside area, known for it's rugged coastline. Trails wind past pine trees and sandstone canyons in Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, while the 2 courses at world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course sit atop sea cliffs. La Jolla Cove has sweeping ocean views, and the Shell Beach tide pools are home to anemones and crabs. Posh boutiques and waterfront restaurants dot walkable La Jolla Village.

Old Town San Diego

Old Town San Diego

San Diego, CA 92110

In the 40-acre Presidio Park you’ll be at the site where the San Diego Mission and the San Diego Presidio, the first settlements in modern day San Diego, were founded in 1769. The Old Town is a great place to go for real Mexican food and brims with specialty shops and art galleries.

Mission Beach

Mission Beach

San Diego, CA 92109

Mission Beach is San Diego’s lively take on the classic boardwalk beach town with nearly two miles of oceanfront boardwalk, numerous rental shops and Belmont Park, a boardwalk amusement park, featuring the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster, originally built in 1925 but since restored, the Beach House Grill, miniature golf, bumper cars, rock climbing and an arcade. A popular beach with the 20-something crowd, there are plenty of bars in Mission Beach and adjacent Pacific Beach, and a hot nightlife scene for young adults and the young at heart.

Gaslamp Quarter

Gaslamp Quarter

San Diego, CA 92101

As one of San Diego's premier shopping, dining and nightlife destinations, the Gaslamp Quarter is home to the region's most diverse restaurants, retailers and entertainment venues. With more than 100 restaurants and entertainment venues, and more than 80 boutiques, spas and salons, fine art galleries and artisan shops, the Gaslamp Quarter offers countless opportunities to indulge, entertain and amuse even the most discerning visitor.

Coronado Beach

Coronado Beach

Coronado, CA 92118

Pack a picnic in a cooler, and cross the monumental San Diego-Coronado Bridge for a day at one of the best beaches in America. With the sophisticated architecture of the Hotel del Coronado and a parade of beachfront mansions in the background, Coronado Beach is long, flat and soft. These sands even seem to glisten, an effect caused by their high mica content. Point Loma in the west helps defend Coronado from the strongest Pacific swells, so the beach is safe for swimming and has a team of lifeguards on duty. You can rent a bike or pedal cart and drift along Ocean Boulevard, while there are fire rings on the north end for smores as the sun sets.

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park

Ladera Street, San Diego, CA 92107
, (619) 525-8213

On the west flank of Point Loma is a glorious 68-acre park protecting rough-hewn ocean bluffs, caves, natural arches and tidepools. There’s no mystery to the name, as you may not find a better spot within easy reach of downtown San Diego to watch the sunset. And as with many high vantage points on the Southern Californian coast, there’s a good chance of spotting gray whales between December and April. By road the scenery is sensational on the Sunset Cliffs Boulevard between Adair Street and Ladera Street.
