It was the middle of Nordstrom's biggest sale of the year, Anniversary Sale. Binuri and I were working together in the Men's department. She was our intern. She held a contest to see who could sell the most $150 David Donahue shirts that day. The winner would be treated to coffee by her. Up until this point, she dodged giving me her phone number, so naturally I saw this as my chance at a date with her! I found the next guy I could and sold him 6 of these shirts. I printed a contest receipt and went up to Binuri. I slapped the receipt on the counter, and said "you owe me coffee!" I told her it had to be outside of work or I wouldn't accept it. She had to keep her word. The next week I cashed in my reward, and we went on our first date to Green Temple!
It was our two year anniversary. We started the day with parasailing in Newport Beach. It was the perfect day. The speed boat was playing our favorite song "banana pancakes" as we went out to open water. When we were lifted 800 feet above the ocean, we saw dolphins from up above. This was my little surprise for him. Little did I know, he was about to top my surprise big time! He mapped out an entire scavenger hunt made up of thoughtful and clever clues. At the final destination, as we stood in the same place as our first date, he had me stare at the sunset and close my eyes. He asked me to count to 10 and suddenly I started to get nervous and forgot how to count. He got down on one knee and when I turned around, he asked me if I would marry him!
The stars aligned, and it was the perfect day for us to get married. Astronomically, November 20th after 5 PM was the most auspicious time for us. We talked it through and realized that our first date was on the cliff overlooking the ocean at sunset, and our engagement was on the same cliff overlooking the ocean at sunset, so why not make our wedding on that very same cliff overlooking the ocean at sunset. No further discussion was needed, our hearts were set. Our dear friend Josh guided us through a short meditation, and pronounced us husband and wife!
