I was a building manager in training and he was a life guard at the UNLV Rec Center. It was Super Bowl Sunday and neither of us were thrilled about being scheduled to work. While the whole staff waited outside for the building manager to arrive and unlock the building on this chilly February morning, Billy overheard me having a passionate conversation with other coworkers about how much I despised the Bears quarterback (at the time), Jay Cutler. Billy later told me that my sassiness and knowledge of football caught his attention but he didn't have the opportunity to speak to me just then.... Once we were inside the building, Billy found his opportunity by radioing for a building manager to come back to the pool area and sign his time card. The building manager training me gave me my first task and allowed me to go back and sign his time card. At the entrance of the pool area, there were photos of the life guard staff and one picture in particular caught my eye. The picture was of a cute blonde guy in a Notre Dame shirt. To my surprise, the life guard needing the signature was the cute blonde in the Notre Dame shirt from the picture! I greeted him by saying, "Are you really a Notre Dame fan, or were you just wearing the shirt?" Luckily he wasn't thrown off by my not so traditional greeting-- He just smiled and said "I'm a fan." We immediately became fans of one another and started talking more and more. Shortly thereafter, we had our first date at the Thomas and Mack Center for a UNLV basketball game. Our love for sports connected us, and love for one another grew rapidly. Here we are, five years later.... still in love with sports and undoubtedly in love with each other.
