How we met

In the bush of South Africa

Sam and I met while on a study abroad to South Africa to study primates genetics. Sam was there because it made sense for her anthropology degree, while I was there because 6 credits to look at monkeys? Yes please! Neither one of us knew we would meet the love of our life--Sam actually had plans to move to Denver shortly after she returned from the trip--but I am so both grateful to have gained more than just an education while on the trip. It didn't take long for me to fall for Sam, but it took me a bit to get her to notice me. Once I convinced Sam to spend our bus rides sitting next to me so we could listen to music together (turns out she prefers podcasts over any music I listen to) we really began to connect. I haven't stopped admiring Sam since the day I met her and she amazes me everyday. From helping me with the girls, cooking when I work late, and planning our big day Sam has always been there for me. I do not know where I would be without her and I'm so happy everyone gets to help me celebrate her and what she means to me on September 7th, 2019.

The Proposal

On December 10th, 2017 we spent the day running errands and stopping in various shops throughout Milwaukee. Sam even tried on some rings at Ursa and made a passing joke about not buying rings for my ring finger anymore. *Queue nervous laughter from Billy as the ring is in his pocket* Once it got dark out, they picked up the dogs and drove the short way to Cathedral Square to look at all the Christmas lights they put up annually. Sam remembers it being one of the coldest days of the year so she was ready to head back to the heated car soon after they arrived. Billy insisted on staying to look at the ornaments on the Christmas trees that the local schools made. Sam thought that was a little weird, but didn’t want to be mean so she went along with it. It all made sense a few minutes later when Billy pulled out the ring. About five seconds later, Edith came running up to give them their very first engagement gift...a frozen solid squirrel!
