Early on in our wedding planning, we made the decision to forgo a traditional wedding and most of the pomp and circumstance that comes with them. As part of this decision, only our parents will be in attendance for our wedding ceremony. We share a bit more about how you can celebrate with us in spirit in our FAQ.
It was 2018, we met online (obviously!) Fun fact: We actually met in 2017 on a dating app but never got together. After a year of exchanging messages here and there, Billy (finally) asked me out on a date. We met at The Carlile Room in Seattle after work one night for dinner. I remember leaving the date and talking to a friend on the phone as I walked back to my car — smitten, of course. It wasn't long before we made it Facebook official, got trapped in my 500-square-foot apartment during a once-in-a-lifetime blizzard, and Beau got to work on turning Billy into a cat person. Fast forward a year and Billy asked me to move in while we were at a sunset dinner at The Cactus Club in Vancouver. He then took me on my first international trip to London for our first anniversary — where he unlocked my inner travel bug and opened my eyes to VAT-free shopping! We survived the pandemic (and work-from-home life for a year) in an open-air loft, navigated the ins and outs of combining our lives entirely, and (somehow) kept our cool when going through the homebuilding/buying process in 2022. In a twist of fate, we both wound up sick the morning we were supposed to fly to Carmel, California where I was planning to propose. Quick thinking (and a hefty overnight shipping fee) got the ring from my dad's house to Seattle, and I proposed on our deck at sunset on his birthday with a stuffy nose. A month later when we were able to make it down for our postponed trip, Billy picked up where my proposal plans left off and surprised me with a ring on the deck overlooking the Carmel Valley. We're so excited to return to where this magic moment happened to make our vows to one another in front of our families, later this summer.
