In October 2012, a 3rd year medical student named Bill started in the research lab where Jess worked with an unruly beard and haircut that said "I've been studying for Step 1 for the last month". Jess paid him no special attention but they became good work friends. Insert Ashely Finlen Copeland, Jess's boss and self-proclaimed matchmaking extraordinaire. Every day Jess would listen to Ashley tell her, without any hint of subtly, how sweet, funny, cute and smart Bill is. Months went by and their friendship grew, as well as Jess's overwhelming concern about Bill being at Stonehenge during the 2012 presumed Mayan apocalypse. One day at work they were having a conversation about movies while pipetting DNA. Spoiler alert, if you haven't already picked it up, our movie tastes are VERY different. Bill was utterly shocked that Jess had never seen Shawshank Redemption, his favorite movie of ALL time. Bill invited her over to watch and said he'd cook pizza. (If you've seen Bill in the kitchen, you'll get a good laugh at that). After the 5th murderous scene Jess was wildly disturbed and peered back at Bill only to see him with dough stringing from his fingers in the air; he smiled and said "must've put the wrong temperature water in?". Over the movie and starving after the failed dough attempt they decided to grab tacos. Just as they were getting ready to sit, Jess tripped with 2 containers of salsa verde and proceeded to launch them across the restaurant. After staff came to help her, she urgently told Bill they had to leave immediately out of sheer embarrassment. They got back to Bill's house with now cold tacos and almost finished Shawshank. They were inseparable ever since. Jess still has no idea how the movie ends.
