We first met in a meteorology class at NDSU in 2018—Tran was a junior, and Billie was a freshman. As time went on, our paths kept crossing in classic college fashion: through our NDSU Bison Football responsibilities and even on the same bus ride home to neighboring apartments. Like most young people, we eventually crossed paths on dating apps too. Billie couldn’t forget Tran’s very memorable profile, which featured several photos with his sister and the caption: “Looking to get photos with someone other than my sister.” As luck would have it, Billie ran into Tran’s sister, Tiara, during one of NDSU’s infamous Mug Nights in the spring of 2021. With a little courage, she asked Tiara if her brother was still single. After exchanging contact information, our first date was set for the following week—and it lasted for hours. The day unfolded from coffee at Babb’s Coffee in downtown Fargo, to a walk through Orchard Glen Park, and finally drinks on the patio at 701 Eateries. As Billie entered her senior year at NDSU, we officially became a couple while camping at Turtle River State Park on August 27, 2021. Not long after, Billie accepted a job with John Deere, knowing it would take her out of North Dakota. Tran followed his own dreams, accepting a position in Nashville with a Major League Soccer team. Long distance wasn’t easy, but it stretched our relationship in new ways and strengthened our love even more. After living in Raleigh, Orlando, and St. Louis, Billie knew it was time to return home to take over her family farm. Tran was ready to support her next chapter and moved to Rolla with her in 2024. Since then, we’ve embraced small-town life—balanced with trips to nearby cities for concerts and hockey games, and plenty of returns to Fargo to cheer on the Bison. Along the way, we made the most of every place we called home and even found fun spots to meet in the middle, including Atlanta and Asheville. We’ve also loved visiting Billie’s sisters in warmer states, with memorable trips to New Orleans and Phoenix. Most recently, in November 2025, we traveled to Arizona, where a visit to the Grand Canyon turned into something even more special. Tran proposed along the Desert View Scenic Drive, and we returned home engaged—ready for our next adventure together.
