How we met

Sometime in November 2012

Becky: Short version- We met on line. The longer version... Thanks to Julie and Deb who both had found relationships on line, I had to give it a try. Sitting on the top deck of the beach house she had rented, my friend Lisa helped me write a profile. Fast forward 5 months and a whole lot of hits on my profile and bad first dates, I had added the line " if your only picture is a selfie taken in your bathroom mirror with the toilet in the background or you have hair growing out of your ears, you should look for a friend who can help you with those before you look for a girlfriend." I was ready to throw in the towel when I got one last interest. this time it was "BeagleLover" and his pictures were a selfie in front of the Wawa coffee carafes, and a picture taken through the trumpet on his knee. After many phone conversations, on 12/30/12 Bill drove an hour north, after a full day of snow, without heat in his car, to meet me at the Buckeye for drinks. When they closed the dining room, we moved to the bar. When the bar closed, we sat in the car for another hour. I left there not hoping, but knowing we were headed somewhere.

The Engagement

December 15, 2018

February 2016- We went to the beach for President's weekend. After dinner at Johnny's Cafe' we went for a walk on the beach and Bill told me that this was where he wanted to ask me to marry him. So you can image, I was now ready and expecting it. Every trip to the shore that summer, our return trip the next Feb. and then every trip the summer after that I wondered, Is this going to be the time? Dec. 15, 2018 we are headed to the shore for an overnight getaway. Bill had a Chinese take out box of "homemade" fortune cookies he had been given by a client. As we drove, we ate cookies and read the fortunes. Each was a bible verse. The client is a pastor and his wife. At Farley Service Plaza, Bill asked if we could go right to the beach to fly his kite before it got dark. Once there, Bill sent it up and tweaked it once it came down. When he had it the way he wanted it, he asked me to reset it for him. As I walked the 150 ft. of string, he told me to watch for the crab in the sand. I didn’t see a crab but found a Steven Singer Football. I picked it up and Bill broke it open. Inside there was a note on the same paper as the fortunes and it was rolled inside a ring. The note started with the passage from 1 Corinthians:4 and ended with WILL YOU MARRY ME. I had waited so long that I never thought he could make me cry but he did. He had tied the ball to the kite and sent it 150 ft. in the air! After that we went for drinks and he kept asking if I liked my ring. I told him I loved it and he kept asking. Then he gave me the box. I asked him to keep it since I didn’t have a pocket or purse and I was wearing the ring. He asked one more time if I liked it and when I said yes, he replied “ Well, if you really love the $8.75 ring from amazon, I guess I can return this one” and he opened the box to reveal the ring I wear. The rest of the night included dinner at a special restaurant and a night in the bridal suite at the Claridge. It was perfect.
