Great mix of top rope and bouldering...Liz may or may not have nearly broken her ankle here, but that totally won't happen to you.
One of our favorite restaurants, and the place that we went to on the night that we first moved into our apartment (and then several other times afterwards)
Do we really need to explain why you should go.
Incredible and inexpensive Thai food. We went here the same day that Liz nearly broke her ankle bouldering, and it made her feel much better!
Because who doesn't love craft beer?!?
Another local brewery. And they have a brewery cat that just chills in the tasting room
Good beer. Nuff said.
Liz's favorite taproom.
Where we rang in Liz's 30th year of life.
Don't be put off by the neighborhood. This is one of the better taprooms in NYC.
We like art. If you like art, you should go to the Noguchi.
Cool outdoor sculpture park with a rotating group of exhibits.
Delightful, massive sandwiches. And it's only a few blocks away from Other Half Brewing.
Because you're tourists and you're probably going to do it anyway. Pro Tip: Don't wait in line for Julianna's Pizza. Pick up a pie and then eat it in the park taking in the view of the Manhattan skyline.
Delicious pizza. There will be a line to dine in, but we recommend picking up a pie to-go (no wait) and eat it in Brooklyn Bridge Park. You're welcome.
Pretty safe to say that this is our favorite pizza in NYC. Also best calzone we've ever eaten (and we've eaten many).
This is the tasting room for the King's County Distillery (which does free tours on Sunday). But stop by The Gatehouse anytime for great whiskey and cocktails. We used to live down the street and went too many times to count.
We're not sweet brunch people, but you MUST get the pancakes here (you can order just one instead of getting an entire stack). And if they have the cast iron skillet cornbread, do yourself a favo(u)r and get that too. Also, this is the location of one of our first dates ever.
Arcade games, beer, hotdogs, and bowling. Also the site of our first fight.
You wouldn't think that coffee and sushi go together, but this coffee house/sushi restaurant is a delight.
This is where we got in shape for the wedding. Drop by for a class...if you dare.
TACOS & MARGS!!
LOCAL GEM: When Jesse lived up in Spanish Harlem, this used to be our spot. Get the New York State Cheddar grilled cheese (cheddar, pork belly, kimchi, and a fried egg), and pair it with one of the local beers they have on rotation. Not a single tourist in sight!
A small, friendly bouldering gym with some challenging routes (and dangerously close to Earl's Beer and Cheese—see other tip). This is where Liz, Jesse and their third wheel, Jack fell in love.
If you find yourself in Harlem, swing by Red Rooster for some world-famous comfort food.
Some of the best Northern Thai food in the city. Make a reservation if you can, but you can also swing by, out your name down, and then explore SoHo until your table is ready. Get the Khao Soi.
Best sushi for the price in the city! Cash or AmEx only.
This one is for the Canasta ladies. Massive dim sum restaurant, which is great for big groups. Usually a line, but worth the wait.
Best.Fried.Chicken
$1 oyster happy hour. Need we say more?
Duh. Also, the leaves will hopefully be beautiful this time of year!
Duh.
FIRST DATE ALERT! This is the site of our first date, but that's not the only reason to go. This little speakeasy makes some delicious bespoke cocktails...if you can find it ;)
Our local watering hole! NY State craft beers and a friendly group of locals.
Pork.Shoulder.Sandwich!
Get the tie-dye pizza!
Best single slice of pizza (best enjoyed after a long night of drinking). Nate is also a big fan of the pepperoni cups.
Cool new park in Brooklyn with great views of the Manhattan skyline.
