Mackenzie had just transferred to DePaul University and was moving into her dorm apartment. She held a packed box, waiting for the elevator doors to close. As the doors were nearly shut, a Swoopy Hair boy jumped in. For the first 3 months of knowing him, Mackenzie's official name for Kevin was "Swoopy Hair" ... and come to find out, Kevin always remembered Mackenzie as "THE Girl in the Elevator". Elevator Girl: "Could you press #3, please?" Swoopy Hair: "Do I know you?" (Sweetly) Elevator Girl: "No, I don't think so," (Oblivious) Swoopy Hair: "No, I think I know you." (Convinced) Elevator Girl: "I don't think so, I'm just moving in." (Sarcastically gesturing to the box in her arms) Swoopy Hair: Smiles and lets out a little chuckle. As the doors opened on the 3rd floor, he stepped forward to hold them open. Swoopy Hair: "I live at 518. I'm always having people over. You should stop on by!" Mackenzie rounds the corner, approaching her apartment, and immediately thinks: "Could you have flirted any less?! Good going, Kenz." But as the weekend went on, and she quickly met who are now two of her best friends, her confidence grew… so she did, in fact, "stop on by" and was welcomed into an apartment full of people playing games, listening to music and having the time of their lives. She knew she made the right decision. From that night forward, really from that simple elevator encounter, the rest was quite literally history. The next 12 years are made up of a series of parties filled with so much laughter you can't help but smile when you think back on them, a long friendship between the Swoopy Hair boy and the the Elevator Girl with the moving box, an on and off again dating and flirtation, a year of Kevin living in Spain and Mackenzie being unable but to think of him and being excited for him to come back, to eventually a 6+ year "official" relationship that has been the most loving, adventure-filled, and happy time in both of their lives. That building where it all began was 1237 W Fullerton, and it will always have a special place in their hearts. It brought them their soulmates and friendships that have blossomed into family. 1237, in a lot of ways, was the start of their life together, and they are so excited to see what else is in store for them as husband and wife!
